Fluency
It is our mission to help our students become fluent readers and show progress towards proficiency. Our recent FAST results have prompted increased attention to this area. Intentional teaching of fluency can be observed in many classrooms through anchor charts, modeling, practice opportunities, and feedback. Continued implementation of what was presented in professional development around fluency is essential for student success.
Fluency Anchor Chart
Created whole group to use as a scaffold in the learning process
Fluency Partners
Fluency partners provide a practice opportunity as well as a feedback opportunity.
Fluency Practice
Individual practice gives teachers formative assessment data for decision making as well as providing an opportunity for individual feedback.
Driven By Data
Spending time analyzing data as deeply as we have and writing action steps based on that analysis will only yield results if those actions are implemented in practice. This week during Walkthroughs I was able to see evidence of action steps in many classrooms. Please take time to review your action steps. You are key to student to student learning!
1.OA.1-Fluency
Action Step: Students will have their own bag of facts to be practicing (differentiation).
2.OA.1-Problem Solving
Action Step: Help students understand the problem and then create appropriate plans to solve.
5.NBT.5-Fluency
Action Step: Help students develop strong number sense of multiplying numbers by having them work it "til it's right" in Problem of the Day.
3.RI.2
Action Step: Highlight key details as a group. (model)
4.RI.2
Action Step: Highlight key details and the go to the main idea-Assignments to practice on their own.
Small Group Instruction based on Interim Assessment
Small group instruction is provided based on interim assessment results. The teacher got the class started on their investigation and then said, "I'm going to pull a group with some people who have some similar things to work on."
