Nibble Necklaces, Reindeer, Pancakes, and Happy Holidays to You All!
Dear Cougar Family,
Y'all. I have a confession. I really love Hallmark Christmas movies. I have watched so many of them that I have to wait for the weekend premieres to see ones I have not seen before, and sometimes, I just let a movie I have seen before play in the background while my kids play. They are always filled with festive lights and more often than not there is sparkling snow and a town with a festive name, like Christmas Valley, Homestead, and Hollyvale. I know that these movies will end well, in spite of the relatively minor conflicts and misunderstandings along the way. It's nice to have that sense of security, especially when so much we do in education involves taking risks--like trying a new lesson plan, noticing a student is preoccupied and asking him how he is doing (even though we don't know what can of worms we could be opening), or clicking on the email containing STAAR testing results.
When I have a quiet moment at school, I can't help but pause and to think about all 160 Cougar faculty members. While we don't have an idyllic name on our "city" and not every episode has a magical happy ending (like in my beloved Hallmark Christmas movies), I cannot imagine there is a better team of people with bigger hearts for students anywhere out there. When I see rhetoric about sweeping reforms needed in public schools, it makes me want to invite the naysayers to spend a day with our students and staff. I think they would quickly change their tunes.
With all of that being said, we as an administrative team have wracked our brains on how we could adequately say thank you and celebrate the holidays with our Cougar faculty family. I wanted to make everyone a nibble necklace (see second video below), but that was quickly overruled. We tried to persuade Quick to wear his Christmas suit and go caroling, but alas, he would not agree. Mishler wanted us to borrow costumes from the theater department to perform a Christmas Carol in the commons on Tuesday, but Southard kept forgetting his lines. Kim brought out a folder titled, "Ten Ways to Make Reindeer Out of Candy Canes," but after burning myself with hot glue, that idea was vetoed as well.
We finally decided a faculty brunch would be just right--so please come let us serve you pancakes with fancy fixins, CSHS Meats bacon, fruit, juice and coffee in the LGI on Tuesday. It's a small way for us to say thank you for a successful first semester!
Also, if you have a few minutes--watch both of the videos below. They are good for a giggle or two!
Happy holidays! I'm looking forward to spending 2017 with you all!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!
