The Montessori Magic
November 2019
Quote of the month: Put first things first
November habit of success: Put first things first
"First things First" is defined as…
I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I should say no to things I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized. I work first then I play. A great way to talk about this is to talk about big rocks and little rocks. See the video below.
Structure in Montessori? Yes!!
Looking into a Montessori classroom, it may seem that students have a lot of freedom and little order and structure. Actually, the opposite is true. The structure is hidden in the environment and the way the classroom is set up. Below are a few ways that structure is woven into the classroom.
1. shelves are organized and neat
2. students are given lessons on how to use the materials instead of guessing
3. students show or record work to the guide(teacher)
4. one work at a time is out and put away ready for the next person
5. organization skills are taught to keep up with work
6. grace and courtesy lessons teach students how to move and interact in the room
November attendance goal.....95%
There will be an attendance contest between the 3 PODs (Early Childhood, Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary). The winning POD will receive a free dress and popcorn party for Friday, November 22nd.
Remember: Missing 2 or more days of school each month will cause your student to be chronically absent. It is harder for students to learn how to read, write and learn math facts when they are chronically absent.
