Third Grade Thoughts

Weekly News from Glenhope 3rd Grade! (Volume 16-17, Issue 5)

Thanks to the Glenhope Dad's Club

We wanted to give a shout out to our amazing dad's club for putting together the Sock Hop tonight. We know it takes a lot of work. We hope you can all make it to the Sock Hop tonight from 6:30-8:00.

Also make, sure you "like" the Dad's Club on Facebook!

Lunch With the Principal

Our first Lunch With the Principal is next week on Friday. For those of you new to Glenhope, at the end of each month students will have the opportunity to have lunch with Principal Dr. Griffin and oftentimes Assistant Principal Mrs. Hiett. They will only be invited to join this opportunity if they have had no behavior or responsibility issues for that month. These are the things that most often keep children from being invited to Lunch With the Principal:

-forgetting homework

-forgetting to charge an iPad

-forgetting to bring an iPad to school

-saying/doing unkind things to others

-unable to complete work because of silly behavior or carelessness

Lunch With the Principal is meant to be a reward for students who have worked hard all month to be consistent with their behavior and responsibility. If students miss Lunch With the Principal one month, they have the opportunity to earn it the next month!

Typically, we will notify students they are invited to attend the day before or the morning of Lunch With the Principal.

3rd Grade In a Snap Words

Each 9 weeks we will be focusing on 12-13 of the In a Snap spelling words. By the end of the 9 weeks, students will be expected to read and spell these words. We will be working on them at school but would appreciate if you could also help with these words at home. This 9 weeks, the words are:

This year, the district is challenging students in 3rd grade to read at least 2,500 pages from several different reading genres as well as an e-book! The book logs for the GCISD Reads Challenge is located in your child's binder. We ask that you please help your child to remember to log their books...even picture books count! We want everyone to meet the 2,500 page challenge...we know it's possible! **BOOKS READ OVER THE SUMMER COUNT, SO MAKE SURE TO LOG THOSE TOO!** Also, try and encourage your child to read at least one book from each genre:

-science fiction

-realistic fiction

-historical fiction

-informational (nonfiction)

If your child runs out of space on their book log, please let us know and we can provide them with an additional one!
