Woodlake High School Counseling Center

This newsletter is intended to keep WHS students of scholarships opportunities for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. When applying for scholarships, students need to read the scholarship criteria carefully and are encouraged to apply by or before the deadline; applying before the deadline ensures that your application will be received in a timely manner.


The scholarship listing is organized by when the scholarship is due.


We also encourage you to visit the scholarship pages for the colleges you plan to attend as they will have their own scholarships and deadlines.

Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship

Description: The Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship is a scholarship for high school and middle school students that is sponsored by Unigo. This scholarship is open until Halloween, which is appropriate for the subject matter! Have fun with this one! To be eligible applicants must:


  • Be thirteen (13) years of age or older at the time of application
  • Be legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia
  • Be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2026) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education (this means that students can be in high school or middle school when they apply for the scholarship

SaplingHR Onboarding Experience Scholarship

Description: An award for any current or soon-to-be undergrad who has a passion for the people operations and HR space. The scholarship has a brief submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey their idea for a useful innovation in mobile device technology. $1,000 scholarship, awarded December 5th each year.

Visalia Elks Lodge-Most Valuable Student

Description: (6) $500 scholarships to high school senior and a citizen of the United States. This scholarship is judged on Scholarship Application, Leadership and Financial need.

COS Inside Scholarships

Description: Complete one application for a chance at hundreds of available scholarships. Draft a 500- word essay about yourself, three references, list of clubs, activities and volunteer work.

2021 Edison Scholars

Description: The Edison Scholars Program recognizes students who want to be makers of tomorrow — the dreamers, inventors, guardians and pioneers — those who dare to be great.

Each year, Edison International awards $40,000 college scholarships to 30 high school seniors to help them follow their dreams in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) and empower them to change the world.

This is a chance for students with big dreams to advance their education and take part in shaping a brighter future.

Certa Law Personal Injury & Wrongful Death Scholarship

Description: The Certa Law Personal Injury & Wrongful Death Scholarship is an award for any current or soon-to-be undergrad who have had their life altered due to a bodily injury from an automotive or pedestrian accident, be it their own injury, that of a loved one, or an influential individual. The Certa Law Scholarship has a brief submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey the lasting effect an accident has had on their life.

Equitable Excellence

Description: $2,500, $10,000 & 25,000 awarded to high school senior. Additionally, $1,00 awarded to the high school of each scholarship recipient.

WHS Local Scholarship Application

Description: For Woodlake High School Senior or Alumni. Alumni please contact nlara@w-usd.org to learn how to apply. High School Seniors must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum weighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college, university, private school or trade program in the 2021-2022 academic school year.

  • Have 70 Youth Service Learning hours completed, submitted and approved in Helper Helper by February 12th, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Attend a Scholarship Application Interview in March. (WHS Counseling will contact you with a date and time of your interview.)

Three Rivers Woman’s Club Scholarship (Letter of Interest Application)

Description: If you are a WHS Student and resident of Three Rivers or Kaweah you should apply for and complete both the WHS Local Scholarship application and the Three Rivers Woman’s Club – Letter of Interest. Letter of Interest must include why you need financial help from TRWC. Include your personal statement (essay); which should include your plans after high school, the college you plan to attend, career goal, and a resume. You will need to address this letter by their organization name. The criteria set for the WHS Local Scholarship is the same as well as for the TRWC. If you need help with this application, email alira@w-usd.org to get a sample Letter of Interest. Minimum GPA 2.5.

Deadline: December 18, 2020 no later than 11:59 p.m.

Harry & Rose Kulick “Making a Difference Scholarship”

Description: $500 Award for a Woodlake High School Senior. This scholarship requires a typed one-page essay on “What You Did to Make Woodlake High School a Better Place?” Or what you did to make WHS a better place to learn, to attend and to enjoy during your senior year. You must include tangible results in the one-page essay that are measurable; how do you measure success? You must show results that made WHS a better place to learn, attend and enjoy during your senior year. This essay must be submitted in addition to your WHS Local Scholarship application. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Deadline: December 18, 2020 no later than 11:59 p.m.

Huggable Supermom Scholarship

Description: This is $1,000 scholarship is geared towards students who have been impacted by a single mom or who are a single mom themselves.

Transgender First National Scholarship

Description: The first national scholarship exclusively dedicated to helping underserved Transgender students get affordable access to a college education. Awards are annual and based on eligibility, financial need, personal hardship, academic merit or other related consideration. Applicant must identify as Transgender, plan on pursuing a degree at an accredited US post-secondary college/university, have a high school diploma or GED, and be a U.S. Citizen.

Description: $500 scholar open to female high school students interested in a STEM career. It takes 2 minutes to apply!

ERC Eco Scholarship

Description: A $1,000 scholarship open to graduating high school seniors, who are interested in pursuing a degree in environmental health sciences at a two or four year higher education institution in California.

Scholarship recipients may use the award to defray necessary expenses such as tuition, living expenses, books, supplies, university fees and special project costs.

ACVH Fallen Memorial Fund Scholarship

Description: $1,000 scholarship for a senior student planning to attend an institution of higher learning in the 2021-2022 academic school year and who is related to a military service member, going back as far as three generations. This relation is limited to parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.

Ruiz 4 Kids Scholarship 2021

Description: The deadline – including completing the letter of recommendation – is Friday, February 26, 2021. The portal will automatically close and not accept applications or letter of recommendation entries after this date. Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified. Students must use an email address that they will have access to after graduation. Email notifications from Ruiz 4 Kids will be sent to the email address on file.

Please note: it is very important that students follow the instructions and guidelines provided by Ruiz 4 Kids. We had some miscommunication coming from schools last year which cause confusion amongst the students. Description: A $2,000 scholarship for a student pursuing a career in an Ag related field at a 2-year college or a 4-year university.

Description: A $1,000 & $500 scholarship for a student pursuing a career in an ag related field at a 2-year or 4-year university. (Up to 3 possible awards).

RRS Endowment Scholarship

Description: A $1,500 scholarship available for student majoring in agricultural field attending COS. Emphasis given to those pursuing Agri Business and Dairy majors.

Two Year College

Description: A $1,000 scholarship available for student majoring in agricultural field attending any community college or trade school.

Scott Shannon Memorial Scholarship

Description: A $1,000 scholarship may be renewed for 3 years if criteria are met giving the scholarship a $4000 value. Must be pursuing an agricultural major and enrolled in a Visalia area school.

Student of a Farm Employee Scholarship(children of owner or operator not eligible)

Description: A $1,000 scholarship to a student who has a parent employed by a farm, packing house, ranch hand or dairy worker and will be attending a 2 or 4-year university. Does not have to be pursuing an Agriculture field, but is preferred. (Two awards).

Tulare County Dairy Children Scholarship

Description:

1. Senior graduating high school or current community college student

Must be a resident of Tulare County.

2. Must plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college.

3. Must have a parent currently employed on a dairy.

4. Must have a GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better.

5. Transcript from high school or community college must accompany application.

6. Children of dairy owners are not eligible.

Winners will be announced at the Tulare County Dairy Princess Coronation in June. Scholarship recipients will be notified and will be expected to attend the coronation.

Scholarship will be paid in full once Proof of Enrollment has been sent to Scholarship Chair by recipient.

Scholarships awarded must be claimed within one year of award date.

Award will be sent directly to the student upon receiving the above information. Please keep this copy in your files as you will not be receiving reminders for scholarship fund disbursement.

Tulare County Dairywomen Scholarship

Description:

1. Senior graduating high school or current community college student. Must be a

resident of Tulare County.

2. Must plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college.

3. Must have a career goal that relates to the agriculture industry.

4. Must have a GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better.

5. Transcript from high school or community college must accompany application.

6. Applicants that have previously been awarded this scholarship are not eligible.

Applications are due no later than March 1, 2021. Winners will be announced at the Tulare County Dairy Princess Coronation in June. Scholarship recipients will be notified and will be expected to attend the coronation.

California Association of Winegrape Growers Foundation(CAWG) Scholarships

Description: The two 4-year scholarships provide a total of $8,000 each for any campus in the University of California or California State University system. The four 2-year scholarships provide a total of $2,000 each at any California community college. Only children of vineyard workers are eligible to apply. In addition, one Robert Miller Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year. The Robert Miller Memorial Scholarship provides either $500 for Alan Hancock College or $1,000 for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Tri Counties Bank Scholarship

Description: Tri Counties Bank competitively awards scholarships of up to $1,500 each to students attending a 4-year college and up to $1,000 for those attending community college. Awards will be made to talented high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement and business entrepreneurship — especially among our economically-disadvantaged youth.

Woodlake Valley Republican Women Federation (WVRWF)

Description: A $500 scholarship is available to Woodlake High seniors. Please pick up the application form to complete this local scholarship in the Counseling Office. You must have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.0. You want to also attach a resume along with the application. Return completed application to the Counseling Office.

Read for Life "Pass the Word" Scholarship

Description: $500 scholarship to high school senior who has completed a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service outside of school that focuses on improving literacy in Tulare County. Applicant must have 3.0 GPA and plans to attend a college/university or trade school in the Fall.

2021 Central California Asian Pacific Women Scholarship(CCAPW)

Description: CCAPW scholarships provide financial assistance to Asian and Pacific Islander (API) women pursuing higher education who are from Fresno County in California. Applicants will be evaluated based on the following: first generation student, academic achievement, leadership, contribution to API community, and ethnic diversity. Applicants must be an entering/continuing undergraduate, entering/continuing graduate, or re-entry student in a college or university. Special awards are also available for students studying health and/or business.

American College Foundation- Visionary Scholarship Program

Description: Applicants must be currently enrolled as high school Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior, and must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen. Financial need is NOT considered; all income levels may apply. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 each; with multiple winners to be selected. Each award is a non-renewable, one-time award and is to be used to offset costs and fees related to the student’s first year of higher post-secondary education of the student’s choosing in the USA. The 500-word essay is on “Why College is Important to Me.” Only one application per student, per award year will be accepted. Only non-winners may reapply each subsequent year.

Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship

Description: A $500 scholarship to inspire greater awareness about mental health and fuel innovative solutions that help the millions of people who are suffering. Open to high school and undergraduate students.

  • Must be a current high school or college student.
  • Must have personally experienced challenges with mental health or have had people close to them who have experienced mental health challenges.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident
  • All GPAs will be considered.
  • All majors are encouraged to apply.

Caruso Law Car Accident Injury Scholarship

Description: $1,000 (one-time award) scholarship awarded to those who have been affected by a car accident injury, or know someone who has been affected. Must be attending a 4-yr college/university or 2-yr community college for Fall 2021.

El Dabe Ritter Trial Lawyers Scholarship

Description: A $1,500 scholarship offered by El Dabe Law. High school seniors are eligible to apply, so long as they are enrolled in an accredited university, in the U.S.A. Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship will be awarded in the 2021 Fall Semester.

City Property Management HOA Service Scholarship

Description: A $1,000 scholarship open nationwide to those who will be attending college during the fall semester of 2021.

Requirements:

  • Completed application must be submitted online by July 31, 2021. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
  • INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
  • Applicant must plan to attend college by fall semester 2021.
  • Must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.
  • A transcript must be attached to application for consideration.
  • Applicant must submit an un-opened copy of official transcripts if selected as a finalist.
  • This scholarship is a one-time award worth $1,000 to be awarded the fall semester of 2021.
  • Although not required, applicants are encouraged to submit recommendation letters and/or resumes to substantiate their application.
  • Applicant will be required to demonstrate both their merit and their need for this scholarship
