CF Updates
March Updates
General
The system we currently use to register for PD, WisdomWhere, will be replaced with a new system from Performance Matters. The new PD system will not roll out until sometime next fall. Along with a more seamless way to register for PD, it will provide opportunities for online training outside GCS.
SchoolNet is going away, too, probably over the summer. If you have anything in SchoolNet that you would like to keep, please download it before leaving for the summer. If you need help with this, please let me know.
The new system will allow data-driven decisions by principals, teachers, and staff.

Self-Evaluation Grading
- Free-Response:
- After testing, students receive a rubric that is used to grade, and a copy of their answers. They score their answers based on the rubric. If they are within 2 points of the teacher's score, they get bonus points.
- Multiple Choice:
- After test is returned, reflect on 4 questions: compare, look at mistakes, what changes would I make, and where do I need the most help
This can be done through Canvas, so it is individualized for each student, and allows privacy.
Team Station Nation
Use types of questions that students will likely see on the exam (for AP, see College Board and AP manual). Have students complete free-response questions - they can research answers and consult partners. Teacher should only clear up any misunderstandings or explain items that were missed.
Scavenger Hunts
- Hide specific items around the school/classroom (ex. used was Beanie Babies that the teacher collects)
- When students find them, it has a question on it
HORSE
Scenario Solves and Role Plays
- What if.... (ex. - What if one thing were removed from the ecosystem? What would the results be?)
Pass the Paper
- first person in row rights answer, next person must either validate or refute
- Alternative - each person must do one step only, then pass on. Next person cannot correct, but must do the next step based on with the student(s) before them did
Concept Rhymes/Songs
- Have students create rhymes, songs, or stories around concepts
Timed Essay Writing Practice
- Have students practice timed writing so they won't feel so pressured when they have to do it on the test.
AP Specific Tips:
- Use the Chief Reader Report to help students understand where most likely mistakes are
- Use Teacher Instructional Planning Reports
