News & Information for Tiger Families

Letter from the Principal

Tiger Families,

We had another fantastic week here at St. Teresa School. Our middle school students did a wonderful job with the Living Rosary. It is always a reverent time of prayer for our staff and students.

As colder temperatures are upon us, we would like to remind everyone of a few things to ensure students continue to be successful in school if they happen to be absent.

  • If your child is not feeling well and needs to miss school, please contact the office every day your child is not in attendance. This helps our office staff to keep accurate attendance of the student body.
  • If you would like your child's teacher to gather their homework, please reach out to your child's teacher by 9 am through email. Teachers will then gather absent students assignments and bring it to the office around 2:30 pm.
  • If you requested your child's homework to be gathered, please note that it must be picked up by 3:30 pm. Office hours are 7:30 am - 3:30 pm Monday - Friday, closed on Holidays.

Congratulations to Mrs. Neville and Mrs. Duncan for receiving the Catholic Service and Ministry Appeal Fund for Ministry Award for JSVDP! We know the funds they have received will be used to do amazing things for our community.

Don't forget, next week is Red Ribbon Week, the last day of Boo Grams, and the beginning of GUESS THE WEIGHT of the Pumpkin by STUCCO. Have you seen the pumpkin in the front of school... it's HUGE! STUCCO will be selling tickets, 4 guesses for $1 next week. The student with the closest, weight of the pumpkin guess, will win a pogo stick!

As always, we thank you for sharing your student with us. We appreciate your trust, support, and partnership.

Sincerely,

Nicole Green

Principal

Children and Youth Ministry

Once a month at 11am Mass at St. Teresa Church, we have our "Children and Youth Mass" where our children/youth serve in the different ministries during Mass (altar server, greeter, usher, readers, gift bearers, choir). Please mark your calendars as the dates for the next Children and Youth Masses are as follows: November 5th, December 3rd.

Here is the signup for the November 5th Children and Youth Mass.

Our next Children and Youth Mass is Sunday, November 5th at 11am Mass at St. Teresa. Altar servers must be trained in advance in order to serve at Mass. Any questions, please contact coordinator Jen Broida at stluketeresavolunteers@gmail.com

St. Teresa Clubs

One of the main fundraisers at St. Teresa School takes place at BelleVegas Bingo Hall every Thursday night. In just two years, we have raised over $210,000 that gets divided across four organizations (STAA, Men’s Club, Perpetual Help, and the 8th Grade Class). This fundraiser takes the place of traditional fundraisers such as selling candy, pizzas, and magazines. All that we need to do is send five volunteers each Thursday to assist the BelleVegas Bingo staff in running the games for the evening. The evening begins at 5:30 and ends by 9:30 on most nights. Our volunteers sell bingo tickets for lightning games 4-6 times in the beginning of the evening, call out winning numbers to the bingo caller, hand out prize money and help clean up at the end of the night. Anyone who has volunteered before will likely tell you that not only is it easy but it is a lot of fun, as well! It’s a great way to get involved, get to know some people from the school/parish and raise money for our organizations that ultimately filters down to our students!

If you have a student-athlete at St. Teresa then we could really use your help on the following nights that the STAA is responsible for staffing volunteers:

October 5, November 2, December 7, January 4, February 1, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6

We could probably fill all of the time slots if each athlete’s family would volunteer just 1-2 times. You can sign up here:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0A48AAAE2FA5FF2-44865437-staa

The Men’s Club is always looking for new members and this is the perfect way to get started, build camaraderie with others and have a good time in the process! The Men’s Club is responsible for staffing volunteers on the following evenings:

October 12, November 9, December 14, January 11, February 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, and June 13

To volunteer for the Men’s Club, please sign up here:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0A48AAAE2FA5FF2-44866235-sttmens

There are many other schools and organizations that are waiting in the wings to swoop in and steal this fundraiser. If we cannot adequately provide enough volunteers each Thursday then we will certainly lose this money to other organizations and will need to revert back to traditional fundraisers. Therefore, PLEASE click the links above to sign up!

EMPOWER - SAVE OUR SCHOLARSHIP

  • We are looking for volunteers who are willing to go to Springfield on October 24th to show that the Invest in Kids Act matters! That it matters to our students! Please contact Mrs. Green at nicole.green@stteresatigers.org if you would like to go to Springfield!
  • Contact Your Legislator Before Veto Session
  • With the next legislative session only a few weeks away, contacting your legislator about the importance of the Tax Credit Scholarship Program is more vital than ever!

Even if you have already reached out to your lawmaker, we encourage you to write to them again so they know how essential these scholarships are to their constituents. If you are unsure of what to say, you can use one of our pre-written messages. It only takes a few clicks and makes a huge difference!

Wondering what else you can do to support the campaign? Here are a few other ways to participate:

    • Text “RTS” to 52886 to sign up for campaign alerts.
    • Share scholarship stories to help raise awareness about how TCS has helped families across Illinois.
    • Contact Bobby Sylvester, Director of School and Community Partnerships, if your school community is interested in getting more involved in the Remove the Sunset campaign.

Inclement Weather Plan

IS SCHOOL CLOSED?

Closure of St. Teresa School will be shared FIRST on the St. Teresa School website and on official St. Teresa social media within minutes of the decision.

St. Teresa School will be following District 118 closure policy.

If District 118 is closed due to inclement weather, St. Teresa's will also be closed.

For the 2023-2024 school year there will be no "remote learning" days.

As children we all looked forward to the fun of a "snow day."

All "snow days" will be made up at the end of the school year.
