IMPORTANT!! ALL VOLUNTEERS PLEASE READ

Effective September 12, the Forsyth County Board of Education has implemented a new training procedure for ALL school volunteers and chaperones including but not limited to field trip chaperones, classroom helpers, field day volunteers or any other role that interacts with students during school hours.

Volunteers will need to view a short video about Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting. Big Creek will offer a viewing of this video in the cafeteria with our social worker on Tuesday, September 11 at 9:30 am. Once you have viewed the video, you will fill out a form that will stay on file. If you cannot attend our viewing session and you plan on volunteering in any capacity this school year, please view the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWiUng4wP0g&feature=youtu.be . A Note from Nurse G

Flu season is coming! We want to make sure we take care of all of our students and teachers. With that said, I would love to have a supply of aerosol Lysol Disinfectant Spray (shown to the right) to distribute throughout the school all season long. If you can, would you please pick up a can or 2 to send to the clinic? Thank you for your help and support to keep everyone at Big Creek healthy!

Sincerely,

Nurse G

CHORUS POLO REMINDERS

All chorus members must have a chorus polo! Polos must be purchased by Friday, Sept. 21. If your child has a polo from last year that still fits, they do not need to order a new one. Polos can be purchased on www.MyPaymentsPlus.com If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Tilden at HTilden@forsyth.k12.ga.us

Family Connect Night

Next Wednesday, September 12, is our very first Family Connect Night. There will be NO home work and NO studying assigned this evening!! We encourage you to set aside technology on these evening and enjoy some fun family time together.

The Voyage Updates

Hi Parents! We are so excited to be setting out on The Voyage: Adventures in Character with your children this year. This is such an important journey in the life of your child. Our first unit is all about respect, and we know that respect is one of the most important things that your child can develop, both in and outside of school.

Our main Anchor this month is “Respect is showing consideration for yourself, others and the world around you.”

Our first Action Point was “Respect is treating others the way that you want to

be treated.” We hope that you see this happening in your family, as our students take

home what they are learning in the classroom. Let’s see respect grow.

We have also talked about: “Respect is being okay with others who are different from yourself.” We want our students to know that they can show respect to everyone. Talk about this with your children throughout the week as well.

Our main Anchor this month is, “Respect is showing consideration for yourself, others and the world around you.” We have seen students use respect in the classroom and it is

encouraging to see their growth!

We are so glad to be on The Voyage with you! Thanks for being on The Voyage with us; we are stronger when we partner together! Check out the Anchor Card for some conversation starters to use at home this week.

PTO Fall STEM Fundraiser & STEM Activities

This year PTO is raising money to purchase items for the school’s new STEM Lab. We hope to include Robotics Kits, Coding Activities, and a Lego Wall. These are going to enhance our children’s knowledge base and creativity tremendously!

Will you help us raise $25,000 this fall with our Write-a-Check fundraiser? With your cash or check donation 100% of the money we raise stays at the school. If you pay online through our PTO website, a tiny percentage of the amount you donate will be deducted as a PayPal fee.

During the month of September, PTO is helping everyone get excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) so you can get an idea of just how much fun learning can be with your child. Each of these activities is optional, but we encourage you to find a few minutes to sit down with your child to do these fun yet educational activities.

We would love to see your at home STEM photos during the month of September. Post your photos to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and use the Hashtag #BigCreekRoars
