WHPS RLE Community School

Message from the Principal

Hello RLE learning community!!

It is a true privilege and honor to introduce myself as the new principal of the Remote Learning Experience Elementary School. I am excited to join the talented and compassionate RLE team who is dedicated to ensuring your child has a successful remote learning experience during this unprecedented time. I am passionate about educating the whole child and fully embrace WHPS’ mission to inspire and prepare all students regardless of their learning environment.

I come to the RLE from Whiting Lane Elementary School, where I was the Curriculum Specialist and a classroom teacher. Prior to joining the world of education 15 years ago, I was a corporate lawyer. Although I enjoyed my first career, I realized my true passion through working with and learning from children when I was the President and swim coach of the West Hartford Waves Swim Team for many years. This gratifying experience opened my eyes to the fact that I was destined to work with children and I have never looked back.

However, my greatest and most rewarding achievement is being a parent to three amazing children who are all graduates of West Hartford Public Schools. In addition to spending time with my children, I enjoy taking long walks with my husband, baking, reading and indulging in milk chocolate!

I look forward to getting to know you and your children this year as we work together to help them reach their true potential. Open lines of communication are critical to reach our goal, so please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns. My electronic “door” is always open! 😉

Dear RLE Community,

I have been honored to support the opening of this remote learning school which expanded the opportunity for remote learning to hundreds of families since early August. I appreciate the work of our teachers and office team to open a new school in a fully virtual environment and establish new systems/communication with staff and families from schools across West Hartford.

With your support and feedback, I am confident your child's experience - as well as your experience as caregivers - will continue to improve with Suzy Sinatro's leadership and the tireless work of remote learning coordinators, Ashley Callan and Mary Lestini, and Sarah Falvey in our remote learning school office.

I look forward to supporting teachers and school leaders with curriculum, instruction and intervention needs both in the RLE and across the district in my Director of Elementary Education role during these uncertain and shifting times in education and our communities.

Wishing a happy Diwali festival of lights to families celebrating in our community!

We hope you will bring your questions, celebrations, and observations of your child's learning at home to share. Your child's teacher will be prepared to share observations of your child's transition to the remote learning school environment, development of social-emotional learning skills, and progress toward mathematics and literacy targets.

Save the Date: December 11th CCMC PJ Day for the Kids

PJ Day for the Kids is Friday, December 11th! We hope RLE staff and students will consider joining elementary schools across the district and our West Hartford Public Schools Team in making a $1 donation to CCMC and wearing PJs to school!

Cancer wasn’t cancelled during the pandemic, so PJ Day for the Kids won’t be either. As long as children are battling cancer and our expert staff are treating them, the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders needs your support. Whether we wear our PJs in-person or virtually, we can still all stand together with kids battling cancer and blood disorders.

PJ Day is a way for schools, businesses and organizations to come together to show support for kids fighting cancer at Connecticut Children’s. On PJ Day people throughout Connecticut and western Massachusetts wear PJs in solidarity with patients who have no choice but to wear theirs, as they undergo treatment for prolonged periods of time. Participants are asked to donate $1 or more in exchange for this privilege.

How to make a donation? Use the QR code at right for the West Hartford Public Schools-designated donation page OR click here and use the "Search Teams" box to make a donation under the team name: West Hartford Public Schools.

The Story Behind PJ Day

Grade 5 Human Growth and Development *update*

Dear 5th Grade Families,

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our Human Growth and Development Parent Evening. Your attendance and feedback have prompted some excellent dialogue about the content of the unit and how we can make some modest changes to ensure inclusivity for all students and families. To that end, we will be moving the delivery of these lessons to the spring in order to give us time to craft revisions and share these changes with our teachers.

We will share new dates and permission slips in advance of delivering this content.

Thanks for your interest and partnership in this work,

Lisa Daly
