Definitions

Population - the number of a organism is in an ecosystem

Carrying capacity - maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain

Exponential growth - growth rate going up

Density independent - any factor limiting the size of a population

Hardy - weinberg principle - states allele and genotype frequencies in a population will remain constant

Mutations - the changing of a structure of a gene

Gene flow - transfer of alleles or genes from one population to another

Nonrandom mating - 2 individuals in a population will mate is not the same for all possible pairs of individuals.

Genetic drift - variation in the relative frequency of differnt genotypes in a small population

Natural selection - the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and reproduce
