Grateful - Thankful - Blessed

Dear DeKeyser Families,

There is a saying... "Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder." That is a perfect reflection of what I have experienced during my time at DeKeyser. Every day, I am moved and inspired by what I see. Every day, I marvel at the incredible devotion of our staff and their unique ability to teach and inspire our children. Every day, I celebrate the amazing support of our parents and community.

I believe that the success of our school is built on a foundation of mutual respect and inclusiveness. Every day, dedicated teachers and staff nurture a culture of fairness, love and caring, all focused on the goal of providing a safe learning environment for our students and families. DeKeyser Elementary is committed to continuing this focus and supporting our families during the school day and beyond.

I am thankful that our team continues to strive for excellence in each and every classroom and to cultivate an open and positive school climate.

During this time of Thanksgiving, I want to share my gratitude and thank you for being such an important part of our children’s lives. This is a wonderful time of the year to get together with friends and family to celebrate and be thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives. On behalf of the DeKeyser Dolphin staff, I would like to thank you for your continued support and wish you all a safe and happy holiday.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Hathcock

Poinsettia and Wreath Sale

DeKeyser Elementary is partnering with a local greenhouse to provide beautiful poinsettias and wreaths to our families for the holidays. All proceeds from this DeKeyser fundraiser will go directly back to our students. We are excited to establish more leadership teams within the building that will help to spread kindness throughout the building and community. The funds we earn from this fundraiser will go directly to these leadership teams and their projects!

Orders are due by November 30th.

Delivery of the poinsettias and wreaths will be on December 7th from 4:15 - 5:15 pm.

DeKeyser Dolphins Care!

Please help us donate food to our local pantries for the upcoming holidays. All classrooms are participating in a "Food Fight Challenge." Students from all classrooms are collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to Kiwanis who will then deliver food to our local pantries. Ms. Kraatz's students will be collecting, counting, and reporting totals daily for our challenge. The class with the most food donated will earn a pizza party.

Thank you for helping us spread kindness throughout our community!

Meet the Kindness Ambassadors for Student Kindness Council

Meet the Kindness Ambassadors for Student Kindness Council

Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to our Kindness Ambassadors who represent our Student Kindness Council at DeKeyser. We hope you enjoy learning a little about each of them.

Alena Gonzalez is a 5th grader in Mr. Sheridan's class. One of her favorite hobbies is art. She is also interested in nature and animals. Alena joined the Student Kindness Council because she wants to spread kindness not just in school but everywhere. Alena was recommended for the Student Kindness Council by her 4th grade teacher, Mr. Murray. Mr. Murray described Alena as an all-around sweet kid who is a hard worker. He also said Alena had a positive attitude and that her artistic abilities would be an asset to the Student Kindness Council.

Jordan Robincheck is also a 5th grader in Mr. Sheridan's class. Some of her interests include science and different animals. She also likes to do gymnastics and art. Jordan joined the Student Kindness Council because she loves helping people and in particular, she wanted to make sure nobody was going hungry, and that food would always be available to those in need. Jordan was recommended for Student Kindness Council by her 4th grade teacher, Miss Trupp. She described Jordan as a positive role model who can be counted on to do the right thing. She also said Jordan is a hard-worker and is very kind.

WINTER WEATHER IS HERE!

We believe outdoor recess is an important and valuable part of our students’ day. Fresh air, exercise and time spent outside afford students a break from the structure of the classroom With the ever changing Michigan weather, it is imperative that your child is dressed appropriately and is prepared to play outside. During the winter season, every child should have a jacket, gloves or mittens, and a hat. If there is snow on the ground, snow boots and pants are necessary. If students do not have snow boots they will be limited to the blacktop area on the playground. Don't forget to label all your child's items! Thank you!

NEW WEBSITE FEEDBACK WELCOME

Utica Community Schools will be introducing a new website at the end of the month. The goal is to provide our community with a site where they can easily retrieve information. The navigation was designed using logs from the current site and best practices from award-winning sites.

We would like to ask staff and the community to review the site before the November 29, 2022 release. You can view the development site at http://www.uticak12.org/new and provide feedback with this survey: http://www.uticak12.org/feedback. All input is appreciated.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Employment opportunities, posted both internally and externally, are accessible through the district’s online job application site https://uticak12.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx. Individuals seeking promotional opportunities are advised to regularly visit the site. Application to vacant opportunities should be made through the system and in accordance with the process as identified on the specific posting. Instructional positions posted only for internal staff with specific application instructions will still be communicated via memo and not through the online applicant system.
