Hello CV Family,

I have family back in the Midwest and this time of year I frequently share the weather report with them as they are still experiencing all four seasons in one week! It seems that this time of year always has great weather and this year hasn’t been a disappointment. While you may wonder where the connection is between the weather and school, I think that great weather in Arizona correlates to some of the most exciting and prime times on a high school campus. We have started to celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors and the programs they participate in here at Campo. Our students are presenting, performing, and showcasing their talents across the state and the nation. I encourage you to follow our accounts on social media to see all of the outstanding things our students and staff are doing on a daily basis here at Campo. It truly is exciting to see and all of us are extremely proud of the work of our students and staff. As the weather warms a bit, so will the recognitions and celebrations.


Speaking of special people, did you hear about Jacee Iannarelli? Jacee was recognized as the GPS Support Staff of the Year! Jacee serves all of our students, staff, and family and we are so very grateful for all she brings to our campus community. On April 6th the Junior Class will enjoy an outdoor wellness day as a thank you for their hard work on the ACT. All other classes will participate in a study hall where they will explore our new NET Tutor platform.


On April 13th the Junior Class will attend Josten’s presentation in the auditorium. Biomed will present a first aid and stop the bleed presentation, and Radiate will present a topic that supports its mission of spreading positivity.


Wellness Donations

Campo Verde's Wellness Team hosts outdoor wellness days with lawn games and activities. We also host students in the student services classroom. This is a safe space for students to receive tutoring, mentorship, and unwind if needed. All items donated will be used for our campus and student social, emotional, physical, and academic wellness.

Registration for the 2022-2023 school has begun for all current CVHS students. Students watched a video regarding the registration process during Coyote Time. The video link and instructions are currently available on the Campo Registration Website.

Summer School

GPS online and in-person Summer School registration is now open. Students who already have a summer school recommendation from their counselor need to pay the fee in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or at the CVHS Bookstore to finalize their registration. ECAP Presentation

ECAP: Four Year Plan

All students have seen a presentation about ECAP (Education-Career Action Plan) in their Advisory class. We have attached a copy of the slide show here for your reference. Part of the presentation shows students how to enter their four-year plan for classes into the Infinite Campus Academic Planning feature. ALL students must have their plan entered by May of this school year. It is from this planner that all course requests will be filled. Again, please review these choices with your child to ensure that it is accurate and complete. These plans may be changed as students learn more about themselves and their plans for the future. The classes entered for sophomore year will be locked in February.

If you or your child have any questions, we encourage you to contact the assigned counselor. We are happy to help in this process.

The FAFSA is the foundation of financial aid (money to help pay for college). It determines eligibility for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Student Loans, need based scholarships and is required for some private scholarships. What do you need financial aid for? Tuition, room & board, books and living expenses while in college. All college bound students should apply!

Senior Declaration Day Friday April 29th!

This is an open-house style event during both lunch hours where only Seniors can enter raffles to win college gear, gift cards, and big ticket items. Each Senior will also get a chance to declare where they will go after high school on the map of the US. This day is dedicated to all Campo Seniors, with their new major accomplishment of graduating high school, celebrating their after high school plans, whether they are attending a university, community college, trade school, military, working, mission...we are proud of you Seniors!


Our Senior Declaration Day committee works hard at reaching out to local businesses for donations as well, but sometimes we need a little bit more help. (Our local universities have graciously donated college swag for us to raffle off at our event). Our theme this year is "A whole new world". We would be so grateful and appreciative of any donations to our event!

NHS


NHS is excited to announce that so far this year, we have logged over 1,400 hours of community service! This month, the National Honor Society organized a pet shelter supply drive, collecting donations of pet food, toys, and other pet supplies. In addition, we conducted a service event where we made tie blankets for the animals. We were able to donate over 15 large bags of dog food, lots of toys, and nearly 50 handcrafted blankets to a local animal shelter! A huge thanks to everyone that donated supplies and helped out! Also, NHS officer elections are just around the corner! Elections for next year’s officers will take place the week of April 14th and will be announced on April 20th.

Stay tuned as our 2022-2023 new member drive is almost complete. We look forward to announcing next year's new National Honor Society Members!

Drop-in after-school tutoring is back!! NHS tutors are available every Tuesday and Thursday, 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the library. Hope to see you there!

Annual Jazz-a-la-Mode 4/22/22 & 4/23/22 in Band Room

Join us on April 22nd & 23rd for an unforgettable evening of jazz music, dessert and fun! The CVHS BPO will be converting the band room into a nightclub, complete with couches, tall tables, and intimate lighting.

Our Jazz band and several special-guest jazz musicians will be performing and playing in a true jazz setting. Formal (jazz club) attire is requested. Invite your neighbors, friends, and family! You won’t want to miss this event.

Our school’s Best Buddies club will be having the Penny Wars fundraiser the week of Monday, April 4, through Friday, April 8! Penny Wars is a fun coin collection fundraiser that is also a class competition. It will be through everyone’s third hour class, if the teachers choose to participate, and the class that wins will also get a surprise celebration for that class hour on Wednesday, April 13th! Penny Wars is a coin collection, so each coin has a value, but only the silver coins count towards a class's points, whereas the pennies can be used on other classes to take away their points. The Penny Wars point system is:

$20 = + 2,000

$10 = + 1,000

$5 = + 500

$1 = + 100

25¢ = + 25

10¢ = + 10

5¢ = + 5

1¢ = -2

The Penny Wars participants will be marked with a “War Zone” poster outside of their room. All the funds raised will go towards our school’s Best Buddies club. Best Buddies is an international organization that pairs friendships between our student members with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDDs), and our general education students to promote and represent inclusion! We would love to see the classroom participants and find out who will win!!

French Club Fondue:

French Club members and National French Honor Society officers enjoyed the Franco-Swiss traditions of fondue at their March meeting. Students grated, chopped, measured, poured, stirred and sampled chocolate and cheese fondue recipes building community through culture. Members then used baguettes, strawberries and pears to swirl in the fondue. Each student picked their favorites and argued for supremacy. It was a fun afternoon!

If you are looking to obtain a book, the Campo bookstore will be selling remaining copies when the publication arrives in May and will be based on very limited availability. Yearbooks will be sold during lunches and will be first come first serve. Keep your eye on this section of the newsletter for updates as to when the yearbooks will be available.

to request a parking permit for the 21-22 school year. Permit will not be prorated and will cost $60 until the end of the year. Filling out this form will not guarantee a parking spot will become available. There is no parking in the Campo Verde parking lots without a permit. If a permit becomes available, you will be contacted through your student email. If you do not come to purchase your permit within one week of being emailed, I will remove you from the waitlist and email the next student.

The parking rules and regulations form LINKED HERE must be returned when purchasing your permit.

Students are required to display a parking permit when parking on campus. Security will be

stickering and booting vehicles without permits. Parents will be required to come to campus

if a student's car is booted. Make sure you have your parking permit clearly visible,

preferably on your rear view mirror, every single day, no matter what car you are driving. If

you have to drive a car that you have not registered with the bookstore, come in, call or

email me ASAP with make, model and license plate.

All students should have their Student ID. Here's a tip: Take a clear picture of your ID with your cellphone as a back up in the event you lose your ID. Lost ID's can be replaced for $5.

*Lost and Found*

Take a minute now to write your name on the bottom of your water bottle/jug for easier

identification if it gets misplaced. I will be donating all items left in the lost and found during

every break. I will remind you of these changes on announcements and on Instagram.

Physical Education

Our PE Department is excited to work with all of our students in PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SPORTS TRAINING, DANCE, YOGA, and UNIFIED PHYSICAL EDUCATION classes.


PE, Dance, Yoga UNIFORMS:

Uniforms can be purchased in person in our CVHS Bookstore. All students need to have the proper uniform and a combination lock. Please contact Coach Cornell or your PE teacher if you have any questions.


AFTER SCHOOL WEIGHTS:

We are excited to offer another year of "AFTER SCHOOL WEIGHTS" we will be opening the weight room after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:20-3:00pm. Please see Coach Cornell or Coach Bishop for more information.


LUNCHTIME INTRAMURALS:

We will be offering lunchtime intramurals during both lunches for any student interested in being active. Intramurals will be held in either the mini or main gymnasium and occasionally outside (when the weather cools down). Please see Coach Cornell for more information.


SECURING BELONGINGS IN PE LOCKERS: Just a reminder that due to COVID we are not permitting our Physical Education student's to store their PE clothes in locker's overnight. We are asking our students to bring their PE clothes each day, change out in the locker room and securely LOCK ALL BELONGINGS in a large locker (provided) and then at the end of class period, take their sweaty PE uniform home and wash it for the next day. We believe this will cut down on the amount of bacteria in the locker rooms. Questions, please contact your student's teacher.

1. Stress affects EVERYONE!

  • Some may cope more effectively and recover more quickly.
  • Stress may be short term or occurrences that continue over time.
  • 3 Types of Stress: 1). ROUTINE STRESS (every day work, school. etc. 2). TRAUMATIC STRESS (accident, disaster, death, injury, etc) 3). SUDDEN CHANGE STRESS: Stress brought on by sudden negative change (job loss, divorce, illness)

2. Not all stress is bad!

  • Can motivate people to perform at their best or "rise to the occasion" (high achieving people feel stress).
  • Can be "life saving" in times of danger (brain more "wired in").

3. Long term stress can harm health

  • Chronic / long term stress can damage the immune system, digestion, sleep, and reproductive issues.
  • Headaches, sleeplessness, sadness, anger, irritable behavior.
  • If Long term stress occurs heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and mental disorders can develop.

4. MANAGING STRESS

1. Recognize the signs of stress.

2. GET HELP! Talk to a health care provider.

3. Regular EXERCISE!

4. Relaxing activities (yoga, tai chi, gentle exercises)

5. Set PRIORITIES (what must get done and what can wait).... You don't have to do everything at once!

6. Stay connected to FRIENDS and FAMILY that can provide support and help!

Library Information:

We have new displays up for the month of March. One of our displays has the catch phrase, “Books are the pot of gold at the end of our rainbow” and the display has books written by Irish authors. Our other display features nonfiction books and information about female Nobel Prize winners in order to help celebrate Women’s History Month.


Digital Citizenship:

Teens may be scrolling through their social media and see images or videos relating to the violence between Russia and Ukraine. The American Psychological Association has some suggestions on how to discuss war with children and teens. Obviously there are different suggestions for children and teens because of the age difference, but they point out that teens understand war and death more than younger children and are likely encountering information online. Parents can ask their teens what they have seen and how they feel about it to start a discussion. Parents can also point out how to help and encourage their teens to seek out examples of other people helping. And for more teen specific tips on teaching resilience in a time of war to teens, the APA has guidance as well.
