BEACON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: NOVEMBER 2022
DROP-OFF & PICK-UP: PATIENCE IS KEY!
Recently, the City of Montesano required the district to conduct a traffic analysis to evaluate existing conditions and provide any potential mitigation measures in response to our expansion of four new classrooms. This analysis outlined several short-term and long-term proposed alternatives that may increase the efficiency and safety of on-site student pick-up/drop-off, circulation and parking. Based on their recommendations, we will modify the following;
CAR PICK-UP MODIFICATION:
Based on traffic analysis, it was observed that parents did not adhere to all our “Tips for Drop-off and Pick-up” guidelines. A single parent was observed disembarking their vehicle despite guidance to remain in the vehicle this created a compounding effect that lasted significantly longer than their action and caused undue disruption. In addition, vehicles were not stacked efficiently in the modified parking area leaving larger gaps that could accommodate additional vehicles.
STARTING NOVEMBER 14:
Parent/Guardian Queue Lanes in LOT A: Instead of a zipper merge, each lane will be assigned a #1-3 with early arrivals first filling up Lane 1, then Lane 2 and so on. Staff will facilitate all of lane 1 to exit followed by each additional lane in sequential order. This will avoid driver confusion and bottlenecks that occurred with the zipper merge.
Delineated Loading Spaces: Traffic analysis indicated that not all parents would pull all the way forward to the next curbside lane, instead they would pull over once they saw their child despite pulling all the way forward or not. They recommend having clearer space demarcation that staff could communicate once a space opens. Therefore, additional pedestal signs will be added that are used for student pick-up with each space assigned a number 1-5.

Construction Update
We continue to make progress on the portables for our pre-kindergarten program. Crews are working on getting the utilities and infrastructure completed. We do not have a date yet for move-in, thus arrival and dismissal will likely continue to be impacted with construction traffic.
November Parent/Teacher Conferences
Elementary parent/teacher conferences will be held on November 7, 8, 9, and 10 in person in your child's classroom. If you have not yet scheduled your conference appointment, please contact the office ASAP.
Beacon Elementary students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. on these days. Students will still have lunch at school on early release days. There is no school for all students on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
Progress reports for the first quarter will be sent home at your child's conference. Your child’s teacher will discuss student progress, meeting student goals, and the implementation of class curriculum. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please address the problems at this time. Please make every effort to meet with your child’s teacher at the scheduled time.
Veterans Day Assembly
Parents are invited to attend a Veterans Day assembly on Thursday, November 10, at 9:00 a.m. The assembly will be presented by the 1st grade classes under the direction of Mrs. Allison Fagerstedt, Elementary Creative Arts Teacher. 1st grade students should wear red, white, or blue on performance day.
Scholastic Book Fair

It is very helpful to clearly label personal belongings with your child's name so that lost items may be returned promptly.
