For: All Educators
Educators in Provo City School District are eligible to receive additional pay for additional work as outlined in HB 489 (Formally HB 396). According to HB 489, Provo City School District has determined that $1440 will be paid upon completion of 32 professional hours to enhance professional skills and improve student achievement. Educators must compose and review a plan of action with their administrator by the 5th day of instruction, August 22nd. Completion of the Google form shared with you by your administrator is the first step in the approval process. Those who successfully complete their plan will be compensated in December 2023 or May 2024, whichever the educator chooses. Post exp. 8.22

The Utah STEM Action Center is once again offering their STEM Fest on September 19-20. STEM Fest showcases some of the very best STEM companies, nonprofits, and higher education institutions in Utah. Every exhibitor has at least one hands-on STEM experience for students. Students will get exposure to STEM careers, meet professionals in STEM industries, and have a blast trying out different applications of STEM. Field trip spots are filling up quickly! Post exp.9.1

The 95 Percent Multisyllable Routine is an easy to use routine to help teachers provide direct, explicit instruction on the six syllable types students encounter when reading larger words! The program comes with classroom-ready multisyllable decoding lessons, visuals, and manipulatives to help students make quick work of reading big words! This summer, an amazing team of Utah middle school mathematics educators came together to create the Middle School Formative Assessment Clusters! In order to fully assess students’ understanding of the Utah Core Standards for Mathematics (including both the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the Content Standards), this assessment is written in a format called a cluster. Professional Outreach Program in the Schools (POPS), managed by the Utah State Board of Education and sponsored by the Utah State Legislature, supports arts education by bringing professional arts organizations’ educational programs to schools for free or subsidized costs. NASA’s OSIRIS-REx, the first U.S. mission to collect a sample from an asteroid, will return to Earth on Sept. 24, 2023, with material from asteroid Bennu. Have you been thinking about getting a(nother) math endorsement? Head on over to our STEM Endorsement Incentive Program (EIP) FAQ through this link. If you are in the process of or decide to start taking courses related to coursework that results in any USBE endorsement in mathematics, computer science or science, we can reimburse you (up to $1500/course) for the tuition, fees and materials (minus technology)! Registration is open for the Fall 2023 Math Endorsement Class: K-8 EDUC 5520 Algebraic Reasoning for Practitioners. This is the third course in a new cohort. You are welcome to take this course even if you did not take the first two courses. This endorsement is recognized by USBE and is in cooperation with Utah Valley University. Effective September 1st, Provo City School District will have a new medical insurance provider, UMR. If you currently accept our medical benefits, you will receive a notice in the mail, from Select Health, indicating your coverage will terminate as of August 31, 2023. The notice is a certificate of creditable coverage for your records. You will not have a break in coverage as long as you have elected medical benefits by the end of the day, August 14.
We are in the process of getting the information from open enrollment to the new carrier. You should be receiving a new medical card by September 1st. Please provide the new insurance card to your pharmacy and medical providers for any services beginning September 1st. The benefits and premiums are remaining the same for the 2023-2024 school year.
Please watch your mail for your new insurance cards, they may come in a generic envelope. Post exp.8.28
