Well, how about that the companie's first shoes were made inside of a waffle iron with the iron creating the grooved pattern that helps athletes grip running tracks? What is Nike?

Nike, Inc. is an American multinational company that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories and services.

History

It officaly became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1978.

Nike was founded January 25th,1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports and initially operated as a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger (now known as Asics). The founders were Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. While Phil was working for Onitsuka Tiger, he thought it would make a lot more profit if he started producing their own shoes. In 1971 employee Jeff Johnson thought up the name Nike (after the Greek goddess of victory). Phil Knight had finally obtained a name for the now huge company, but he needed a logo.

The "Swoosh"

The Nike Swoosh was designed by a graphic design student named Carolyn Davidson who attended Portland State University. Originally, the mark was simply referred to as "the stripe." Today, it has become one of the most recognizable brand logos in the world, and the most profitable, having a worth of $26 billion alone.

On May 27, 1990, over 80,000 pairs of Nike sneakers were lost at sea.

Market

There is more than 756 retail stores throughout the entire world. As of this year, Nike has corporate offices in 46 countries! It has 44,000 employees worldwide. Nike produces around 50,000 product styles a year and sells in 160 countries.
