Nike, Inc. is an American multinational company that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories and services.
History
It officaly became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1978.
Nike was founded January 25th,1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports and initially operated as a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger (now known as Asics). The founders were Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. While Phil was working for Onitsuka Tiger, he thought it would make a lot more profit if he started producing their own shoes. In 1971 employee Jeff Johnson thought up the name Nike (after the Greek goddess of victory). Phil Knight had finally obtained a name for the now huge company, but he needed a logo.The "Swoosh"
On May 27, 1990, over 80,000 pairs of Nike sneakers were lost at sea.
