CTE Student of the Month
Earth Day Clean Up
Business Professionals of America National qualifiers
Congratulations to our three Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference qualifiers, LeAnn Schroeder, Nathan Newman, and Mailey Hamilton!
Pre-Covid, these students would have been competing in Orlando, Florida and celebrating their accomplishments at Disney World! In place of that, there was a Disney themed day at school, with a parade send-off. LeAnn, Nathan, and Mailey enjoyed a day floating down the Jordan River, having lunch at The Landing, enjoying treats from the Baking Blondie, and going to the Escape Room in Petoskey. Congratulations again to our BPA National qualifiers!
EJ Solar Spark
EJPS is proud to announce that the students in the middle school’s Shoe Club surpassed their industrious goal of raising $70,000 to install a 30 kilowatt solar array on the school’s roof! The array powered up on Earth Day, April 22. The benefits of this array include: saving the school money, education about renewable energy, exposing students to careers in clean energy, as well as many benefits to the environment. The life span of the array is 25-30 years.
This is the largest student-led solar installation that we are aware of in northern Michigan. Students were able to live out the goals of the Shoe Club by dreaming big, setting goals, working hard and giving back. "This is a central purpose of the Shoe Club,” explains teacher and club coach Matt Hamilton. “The club teaches kids to respect themselves and others, and achieving big things is a way to teach that.” We are very proud of the work and dedication the students put into this project. Make sure to drive by the middle high school to check out the array.
