Principals' Message

Dear Central Emerson Families,

We want to make you all aware of our upcoming plans as we transition from two campuses as one school, to one campus with a K-6 comprehensive elementary school. Yesterday at our combined Central Emerson Elementary staff meeting, we announced the plan for next year, as well as the plan for 2024-2025. We are excited to share this information with you, our students and families, as we move forward to develop and articulate our plan.

Plan for 2023-2024
The Central campus will be a kindergarten thru 1st grade campus and will also have positive behavior support (PBS) for students in kindergarten and 1st grades. We will also continue to serve ECEAP preschool (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) and developmental pre-school students at Central.

The Emerson campus will be a 2nd thru 6th grade campus and will also have a 2nd thru 6th grade positive behavior support (PBS) for students in 2nd through 6th grades.

This transition plan will keep our staffing on both campuses approximately the same for the 2023-2024 school year.

Plan for 2024-2025
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Emerson campus will become a comprehensive K-6 elementary school and staffed similarly to all other Snohomish School District elementary schools. Our Central campus will continue to support our ECEAP and developmental pre-school classrooms. Other district programs may be considered for the Central campus as we move closer to the 2024-2025 school year.

As you read this communication, you may be asking … why is this transition planned over a two-year timeframe? Can’t we all just move over together in the 2023-2024 school year? Below are some of the considerations for our decision to move only 2nd grade classrooms for the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Allow for building leadership involvement on how to best utilize space. This will allow for reflection and adjustments while we grow.
  • Time is needed to ensure the necessary structural changes at the Emerson campus including: parking, pick-up and drop-off, storage and classroom use and technology needs.
  • We also want to provide time for our teams to appropriately plan to answer our community questions and have opportunities for student and families to visit our Emerson campus prior to the first days of school.

As we move forward, we will keep you informed. As always, please feel free to reach out to us at samuel.hanson@sno.wednet.edu or alice.dailey@sno.wednet.edu with any questions or concerns.

Go Tigers!

Jingles & Jammies at Central Campus

Thank you Central families we had almost 300 people attend our Family Night event this week.

Bike Contest

Thanks to a generous donation from a local film maker/story teller, Kadha www.kadha.com, who made it possible to purchase and give away seven brand new shiny sturdy bikes. Kids in 3rd and 4th grades who did not already own a bike were given the opportunity to write a response to the following prompt, "Please describe the importance of being a kind friend."

Seven children were chosen to receive the bikes. If you had been there to see the smiles and excitement that spread across their beautiful little faces, you wouldn't have been able to keep from smiling yourself!

Happy riding to you - Emerson kids!

Food Drive

Thank you to everyone in the Central Emerson Community who contributed to the Snohomish Community Food Bank. We donated 1,877 items (1628 pounds of food) and raised over $1,500! Way to go, Central Emerson Tigers!

The PTA and the Food Bank were amazed at the total number of donations. The food bank drivers loved the Emerson kids helping load up the truck for them!!

The winning class at Emerson is Ms Lucas’ class. It was a close race at Central, but the winner is Mrs. Sinclair’s class. Doughnut parties are coming next week before break.

What an amazing way to gave back to our community today. The Holiday Spirit of Giving was in the air. Thank you again!!
