Hour of Code
LEAD 2021 VI. Technology Strategy: We will integrate technology, including student mobile wireless computing devices, into every aspect of the student academic experience to accomplish the GCISD mission and strategic objectives. 1. GCISD will structure student-driven learning that integrates technology to provide students with competencies to be successful in a global society.
This Week Computer Science Education Week
GCISD Instructional Technology is promoting “Hour of Code” in which K-8th grade teachers choose 1 hour during the week of December 5-9 to promote coding in their classroom. Teachers will choose from a variety of resources and tutorials that expose students to foundational concepts of computer science. Computer science in grades K-8:
- Supports the GCISD Portrait of a Graduate by teaching computational thinking in order to develop skilled problem solvers.
- Provides instruction that demystifies coding and programming.
- Encourages students to be creators rather than consumers of technology.
- Intentionally promotes opportunities for all learners to engage in computational thinking.
- Is based on K-8 technology applications standards and vertically aligned with high school computer science standards
Exposing our students to just an hour of code, another way we are building an excellent school together!
