Success Not Guaranteed
Gifted students just as likely to slip through the cracks
Myth: Gifted youngsters are enthusiastic about school and will succeed no matter what
Fact: While many gifted youngsters are enthusiastic about school, others are bored and some drop out (Colangelo).
Some writers have even suggested that highly gifted children are the most likely to fall through the cracks in the classroom (Leef). It is important for students who are gifted to be recognized in order to develop a program that meets their specialized needs. These students can be given an accelerated curriculum, exposure to inquiry-based classrooms and an open learning environment in which they can direct their own interests.
