The Stem Cells Tribute
By Muhammad Dutt
What are stem cells?
Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that are capable to develop and change and turn into different cells. Normal cells are differentiated, which means once they become a certain type of sell, such as blood cells, they will persist in that way forever. Stem cells are really important because they can completely change someone`s life. Stem cells can aid different diseases and problems. For example, stem cells are able to heal heart disease by replacing the damaged cells and turning into cardiac muscle cells.
Where do stem cells come from?
There are two types of stem cells, embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells come from a developing fetus. Adult stem cells are found in a select amount of tissues and organs.
Why are stem cells useful?
Stem cells are useful because they have the potential to regenerate and repair damaged cells. Some potential stem cell therapies include bone marrow transplantation, which is used to produce red blood cells. Additionally, they can repair tissue damage, repair organ destruction and reverse heart attack.
