Spotlight on the Arts
Strut Your Mutt
Come see our classroom therapy dog, Gus, at the Roxy Reading Strut Your Mutt Charity Dog Walk this Saturday. Dress your dog in a Kentucky Derby-worthy hat and join Gus at Fanny Chapman Park and parade to Puck Restaurant. Check in at 9am, walk at 10am, or parade at 11am.

Reading
This week we read Enzo the Wonderfish by Cathy Wilcox. We focused on the following skills:
- base words and word endings
- comprehension
- appropriate pacing when reading
Writing
Math
We began unit 9 learning about:
- tens and ones patterns on the number grid
- adding and subtracting tens on the number grid
- number grid puzzles
- reviewed frames and arrows, function machines, and name collection boxes
Science
We concluded our study of different groups of animals and we are ready for the zoo. This week we learned the characteristics of insects and arachnids. Ms. Vass also came into our classroom during science time to discuss a problem solving program for first graders called Talk It Out.
Making Paper
Carson uses a mould and deckle to make paper.
