CONGRATULATIONS!
Growing Tower
I would like to share my report on the successful Growing Tower Lessons held in the Emery Hall Atrium these last couple of weeks! Most, if not all, the classrooms have had the opportunity for a 30 minute introduction to the growing tower with some hands-on experience planting seeds and putting seedlings into the tower.
Ashley Combs, our dietetic intern, has conducted all of the lessons and done an amazing job. It has been a great opportunity for her to teach nutrition education in a new environment as well! We are very fortunate to have had her for her food service rotation.

COUNSELING CORNER
Sunflower House visits KSD on March 8th
On next Tuesday, March 8th, 2022, Sunflower House, a child abuse prevention center, will visit KSD and give presentations to our students about personal safety (for younger students) and personal and healthy digital boundaries (older students).
A letter with more information about this presentation was sent to parents/guardians from our Elementary School office a few days ago. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our SChool Social Worker, Janna Wiesner at jwiesner@kssdb.org.
ASL Immersion Class Makes Homemade Hoagie Pizzas
Using plastic knives, the students chopped their own green peppers and onions. Then they grated their own cheese. After that, they spread tomato sauce on sliced hoagie buns. After they added pepperoni, the green peppers and onions, they covered their pizzas with grated cheese. The pizzas only took 20 minutes at 350 degrees to cook, so when class was over, Kester brought the sliced up hoagie pizzas to their home room classes. The students then served the pizza slices to their friends and teachers.
It was a wonderful learning lesson as the students learned the names for all the ingredients, all the utensils, how to prepare the ingredients, time concepts, and temperature concepts that all culminated in a tasty treat for everyone!
KSD Booster Club
We have an exciting news to share!
We are bringing back the Jackrabbit Booster club to promote/support our athletic program! Since we are all here to support our students in any way possible to make their athletic /fellowship experience here at KSD a memorable one. We would like to support our athletic programs here at KSD (K-12) by encouraging school spirit, fellowship, citizenship, academic excellence, physical growth and most importantly encourage our students to develop a ‘lifespan’ (healthy lifestyle) involvement habit.
Benefits of having a booster club:
Supporting our athletes
Supporting the athletic department through fundraising
Providing our student athletes with academic support
Providing students to have a ‘great ‘ experience in participating in sports
Encourage ‘lifespan involvement’ (Deaf clubs, college sports, leisure activities, etc.)
Here are some ideas what the booster club can contribute to once the funds have been raised by different events:
Sports-Related Equipment
Maintaining Facilities
Awards and Trophies
Tournaments
Uniforms
Scholarships
Coaches’ Clinics
Equipment for the Weight Room
Food
Other - program needs
If you are interested in helping out with the Booster Club, please contact Mike Wiesner at mwiesner@kssdb.org.
