Interested in obtaining your Masters Degree? Message from John Currie:
Greetings,
We are starting a Master of Arts in Education program in Medford in January. This is a great opportunity for your staff to earn a degree that will pay dividends for their own professional development and student learning in your district.
The program will have an emphasis on curriculum and instruction. It will be held evenings and can be finished in about 24 months.
Information can be found at smumn.edu/maed
We are proud of all of our programs and this one in particular has been very popular because of its relevance, rigor and convenience.
I hope you feel as though you can share the emailed flyer you will receive with your staff. It was because of mentors sharing information like this that I was able to have a rewarding 41 year career in PreK-12 education. I would ask that you do the same for deserving teachers in your building.
Sincerely,
John

A reminder of a new coaching position that is now available: Robotics
Staff,
Last Monday, the Faribault School Board approved a Faribault Middle School program. The is an exciting opportunity for us to enhance and expand our offerings to our students. Now that financial support is secure we must tackle the next barrier for this program, locating coaching for the team. Currently the plan is to hire two coaches for the team, however we have not yet identified individuals with the interest and ability to fill these positions. We hope that you will consider yourself and your colleagues for these positions. An official job posting will be uploaded on the District website soon.
In particular we would like to emphasize that prior experience with robotics is NOT a requirement for these positions. There are many resources for getting you up to speed on the needed skills for construction of the robots. These include access to the expertise available in the High School robotics program. We believe that anyone with a general comfort with technology and powers tools should be able to succeed at directing these programs.
You can explore the programs that the middle school will pursue at (http://www.firstinspires.org). In particular look at the FIRST Lego League and FIRST Technology Competition programs. These are scaled back versions of the FIRST Robotics Competition that the high school participates in, designed to be more accessible to younger students.
If you have any more questions about these programs and what the middle school program might look like, feel free to contact the high school coach Jason Engbrecht jengbrecht@faribault.k12.mn.us.

From the desk of Maria Hanson:
The TIES technology conference is coming up on Dec. 12th and 13th. This is a great technology conference for teachers, principals, admins and other technical staff. Keynotes, breakout sessions and vendor expo. Great learning and networking opportunities for all levels.
Here is a link with more information you can share. Thanks
