Shout out to the staff!

I am so excited when I get to school every morning because I know two things- I'll be learning with the kids and I will be learning with the staff. As I listened to the staff during our Family Information Nights last week, one thing was clear- they are here every day for our kids. They are here early, stay late, do "lunch and learns", and even eat lunch with the kids in the cafeteria from time to time. I cannot think of a better group of staff to learn with every day or to have learning and guiding our kids.

We're all together on our new bleachers!

Hour of Code is the week of December 5th-9th!

December will be here before you know it and with it will come Hour of Code! This year we are aiming to provide all of our students with a coding experience and are asking for your help. If you are willing to volunteer in a classroom assisting with student activities (does not require prior coding experience) the week of December 5-9 or come talk to our students about your career in a field relating to computer science, coding, robotics, etc. on December 14th, please contact Mrs. Iwanski at iwanskim@merton.k1.wi.us.

PTO Boosterthon

Starting on Monday, October 10th, the PTO Boosterthon will get underway. This is the only fundraiser that our PTO will be asking you to participate in this school year. More information will be forthcoming, but the culmination will be fun runs held on October 20th. Stay tuned!

Your Choice to Live presentation at AHS

On Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m., Arrowhead High School along with Your Choice to Live, Inc., Rosecrance and Rogers Memorial Hospital will host the Stairway to Heroin Educational Event at Elmbrook Church- Lake Country (formerly Westbrook). This public event will increase your awareness and knowledge of the illegal drugs that our children in our community are increasingly coming in contact with. Parents and school community members will be empowered with strategies to influence their child and take part in a heart-to-heart presentation by many prominent guest speakers. Come out and support your Arrowhead team.

On a personal note...

This weekend is a big weekend for my dad and me. We are going on an Honor Flight out of Madison tomorrow morning. My dad is a Korean War Veteran who served in the United States Navy. He and I will be joining 85 other Veterans for a full day of tours through Arlington Cemetery and the monuments. It's a perfect birthday present for him as he turns 80 on Sunday. I will be sharing this experience with the students and staff some time in the near future.

Check out Twitter and Facebook for some photos of the students and staff today as I've asked everyone to wear red, white, and blue jeans today.
