Hello Dorr Families,
We would like to thank all who attended PTC this week. Sharing your student’s progress and “Good Things” about their development is a joy. Thank you to all who attended.
If you did not get a chance to attend, please contact your child’s teacher and we would be happy to do a phone conference.
Have a wonderful weekend,

February Student Of The Month - Kindness
Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.
The following students were nominated for Student Of The Month.
2nd Trimester Report Cards
2nd Trimester Report cards will be available to view in your Parent Portal after 4:00pm on Thursday, March 9th. Report cards will not be sent home with students. Follow the steps below to view your students report card!
Snow Day Challenge
If it's a snow day, you know there is going to be a snow day challenge! We recently had 2 snow days and the challenge was on! In the first challenge students were encouraged to share their favorite nursery rhyme. The second challenge was a student take over! 8th grader Trevin B from the Middle School challenged Dorr Elementary students to a dance off! Congratulations to Maelynn Truswell and Benjamin Kusmack!
Follow us on our Facebook page so you don't miss out on all the fun!
Happening In The Halls
Artist Corner
Kindergarteners made pop up houses in art this week. They drew and designed their houses and then folded and cut them to make them stand up.
Reading Month Fun
March is reading month at Dorr Elementary. Students are enjoying a variety of different reading activities. From daily mystery readers, to dressing up like your favorite book character, there is an activity for everyone! Below is a calendar of some fun activities that we do each day. You can also participate at home! Happy Reading Month!
Transportation News
Traversa is up and running! A reminder that Traversa is the bus routing software that the district utilizes.
As a parent of a bus rider you have access to the Ride 360 app:
Traversa allows the Transportation office to view buses moving through the district by GPS, the scan card reader allows the district to know where children got on and when and where they got off. Currently, kindergarten and some first graders are trialing these cards with more expected in the next few weeks. A reminder that cards need to be on every morning and afternoon with the district supplied safety lanyard.
Note to parents - the message function only sends messages to the transportation office, not the driver. Drivers are not allowed to use cell phones during bus routes. Messages sent may not be responded to if the dispatcher is busy with other duties.
Parents, would you like to have more than one user:
Option 1 Parent/guardian can "share" the record with another parent/guardian. Originator parent/guardian logs in and clicks share. Choose the record and enter the parent/guardian email address that they would like to share access with. The added parent/guardian will be able to see it and all notifications, but will not be able to share the record.
Option 2 Ask the Transportation office to add the other parent/guardian user name to the student record in the My Ride tab.
A reminder that drivers cannot add non-registered students to their routes, or make changes to routes, or confirm any transportation information to parents. The transportation office is the only approved provider of transportation information: transportation@ waylandunion.org
The final item needed to have Traversa fully functioning is the connection between Infinite Campus (your parent portal) and Traversa. This connection is what the district uses to send messages to parents of bus 3 (example) and not the district as a whole. WUS' tech team is working on this task.
Software conversions are never without issue and we are thankful for your support of our WUS team.
Now Enrolling 2023-24 Preschool Students!
Preschool Enrollment for 2023-24
Wayland Union Schools Preschool will begin taking admissions for three and four year old tuition preschool students for the 2023-2024 school year. Enrollment will be on a first come first serve basis beginning February 27, 2023 at 9:00am where a link to a pre-admission form will be placed on the district website. Families of existing preschool students and WUS families and staff will receive this link earlier in February to allow for priority enrollment. Discounted rates are offered for families living in the WUS district thanks to the Gun Lake Casino revenue.
The district will offer both 3 and 4 year old programs at Baker and Dorr Elementary Schools. Students need to turn 3 or 4 by September 1, 2023 and be toilet trained. Both half and extended day options will be available for four year olds and half day options for three year olds.
A new, online admission and billing system called Brightwheel will be implemented to make it easier for parents to register, make monthly payments, and receive communications from teachers.
For more details, please visit our website and find the pre-admission link on the homepage or go to “Departments>Early Childhood>Preschools” to learn more. Questions can be directed to Laurie Zywiczynski, Director of Early Childhood, at lauriez@waylandunion.org.
