Warrior News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
SEPTEMBER 6, 2019
Greetings Warrior Families and Friends,
Week one is in the books and it has been an outstanding start to our school year. Our week began with our first ever Welcome Back Warriors assembly and concluded with our first club fair. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels connected to our Warrior family. Ask your student(s) about these events and please encourage them to join a club, activity, or a sport to compliment the great learning that takes place in our classrooms.
We also want our families to be informed and connected as well. Check out our website and actively join in the events we host. A great opportunity is coming up this Wednesday night (see below for details). Come to our concerts, performances, and sporting events. Your support and attendance contribute to what makes MHS a very special place.
Have a great weekend and I hope to see you soon.
Go Warriors!

Student Drop-Off
We recommend Doors 10 and 16 as drop off locations for our families who drive their students to MHS. Our main entrance, Door 1, has very limited space and traffic can back up onto Racine Ave. Additionally, parents often find it difficult to re-enter traffic onto Racine Ave. Utilizing Door 10 or 16 still provides close access for students and Woods Road is typically much easier/safer for families as they exit. Thank you in advance for your support.
Fall Test Day on September 10, 2019
all 9th-11th graders. The Pre-ACT and Practice ACT will provide useful information to help your child choose the right high school courses, identify areas of strength and growth, and be foundational in the process of creating a long-term academic and career plan to meet your student’s goals. MHS staff are excited to be partners in this process. Upon the completion of the testing, time will be dedicated by staff to help students understand their results and set meaningful goals. Please click this link for additional details on this valuable experience
Test day will run from 7:25-11:05. Students are dismissed at this time and busses will leave promptly at 11:15. There will be NO classes in the afternoon.
Registration for AP Exams
Registration for AP Exams starts Monday, September 9th and goes until September 29th. Late registration takes place September 30th- October 4th, there is a $10 late fee during this time. Students will need to register on the MHS site as well as on the College Board site. Exams are $94 and administration of exams will still take place in May. Warrior Welcome 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
In hopes to continue to build strong partnerships with our families, we would like to remind you about the upcoming Warriors Welcome Night. This event will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, and will begin promptly at 5:30 pm in the PAC. After a brief introduction and explanation of the event, families will walk through their student's entire schedule. Classes will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute passing period. While in class, you will hear teachers share a summary of the course expectations, supports available, and how to stay informed about the academic progress of your student.
This event is intended for parents/guardians. Students are not required to come but are welcomed as well. The event will conclude by 7 p.m. Please be sure to have your student's schedule loaded on your mobile device or bring a printed copy. If you have any questions please call the MHS office.

Wisconsin Education Fair
On Tuesday, October 15th, Arrowhead High School will be hosting a Wisconsin Education Fair from 6 to 8pm. The purpose of the WEF is to connect area students with post-secondary opportunities. The Fair is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors and is free of charge. Please use the following link to register and for further information. http://www.wefs.org/
This year's Fair will have over 120 participants. http://www.wefs.org/participants
The WEF can be a first step or a finalization for students in their college search process. Please consider using the Fair as a resource for your students. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Mr. Smith, School Counselor, 262-971-1790.
PSAT for Juniors
The PSAT is for students who will be going on to take the SAT, which may be required for some out of state schools. A complete list of U.S. Colleges that use the SAT results can be found on the College Board website. Students may also take the PSAT to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship if their scores qualify for recognition into the program. More information about this scholarship can be found at nationalmerit.org. Your student will also have an opportunity to take the Practice ACT for free on September 10th. Students must register for the PSAT in Student Services by Wednesday, September 25th. The exam has a $17 fee that will be added to the student’s account at the time of registration.
MHS Activities Fair
Students and staff visited with members of co-curricular clubs and activities. Our internal data strongly shows that if students engage in co-curricular activities and athletics, it leads to improved academic achievement and stronger engagement in our Warrior community.
Congratulations!
Cell Phone Use & Digital Citizenship
A focus at our school this year is on improving digital citizenship, which includes the appropriate use of cell phones during the school day. In an effort to increase student engagement and promote a positive learning environment, MHS has increased its focus on appropriate cell phone use during school hours. Providing guidelines for responsible cell phone use promotes classroom engagement, encourages academic honesty, and develops positive classroom and social interactions. For more information, review the Policy 5136 - Personal Communication Device.
