Kerstin Long
Kerstin Long is a Title I Math Instructional Coach at High Point Elementary School in Sandy Springs. She supports exemplary mathematics education in balanced assessment, cloud-based data collection and analysis, instructional design, personalized learning, and STEAM. She is an ardent advocate for student engagement, active construction of deep mathematical understandings, and responsive teaching.
During her 26-year career in education, Kerstin has facilitated more than a thousand hours of professional learning for hundreds of teachers. She got her start in 1997 when she began sharing her work in the classroom at local and national educational conferences and partnered with Professional Learning to re-design and co-facilitate the Teacher Support Specialist endorsement in Fulton County. Kerstin moved on to develop professional learning for Fulton County teachers on Continuous Improvement classrooms, and served on the editorial board for a peer-reviewed international journal of professional research. Kerstin has supported and coached math data teams since 2007 in both Fulton and the Athens-Clarke County school districts. Her work has been published in several professional books and online.
Kerstin’s approach is basic: transformational professional learning is job-embedded and a model of the practices teachers will carry forward with them into their work. She feels teachers learn best when they have choice and voice, when the work relates to a burning issue that they are striving to clarify, and when the results of that work are immediately useful to them in their classrooms. She continues to be an active action researcher and inquirer into her own teaching practice.
Kerstin holds an Education Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education as well as endorsements in the fields of gifted education and teacher support. She is completing her Teacher Leader Endorsement this school year.
