Letter From the Principal
Parents,
It is hard to believe that one-half of our school year is behind us. We are excited about all that we have accomplished at IKES, and we are equally excited about all of the things that are coming up the last half of the year. We will be honoring our 4th and 5th grade students on January 18 at our quarterly Honors Assembly. Students who made A’s and B’s, and those that had perfect attendance during our 2nd quarter will be recognized. The 4th grade assembly begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. followed by the 5th grade assembly at 9:15 p.m. Please park in the FRONT parking lot. Our Techno Wizard Club students will be performing on Saturday, January 20 at River Ridge High School. We look forward to hearing all of the positive results from that competition! Our IKES Reading Bowl Team will be competing at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27 at Freedom Middle School. Good luck to both of our teams! One of my favorite events will be Friday, January 26 – BINGO! Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and games begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Our first graders will be performing on February 6 at 6:30 p.m. We are looking forward to all of these events – never a dull moment at IKES.
I also want to thank you as part of our stakeholder group for the support you provide to not only your child, but to our teachers, support staff and administration. I know that you realize that it takes ALL of us to help our children learn and grow. Please continue to work with us to help each child become a successful, productive member of our community.

The focus for kindergarten guidance will be character education with an emphasis on kindness and friendship.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the MUST Ministries Toy Drive through our school program, IKES Believes in Helping Others. The needs of many Cherokee County families were met due to the generosity of our Indian Knoll families.
If you or anyone you know is in need of resources please feel free to contact either one of us at: colleen.delosh@cherokee.k12.ga.us or lori.waycaster@cherokee.k12.ga.us.

Lunchroom News
Lunchroom News: VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE SAUCE!
During the month of January, we are leading up to the Super Bowl with our own version – the SUPER SAUCE BOWL! We are making sauces from scratch to go with our Chicken Nuggets. On Wednesday, January 10th, we made Honey Mustard Sauce and our very own Cherokee County Special Sauce. The students were given a sticker to vote for their favorite of the two sauces. The Cherokee County Special Sauce won this competition! January 16th will be our next competition with Buffalo Ranch Sauce and Honey Barbecue Sauce, made from scratch. Once again, the students will be able to vote for their favorite of these two sauces. On January 30th, the Tuesday before the Super Bowl, we will have a competition between the Cherokee County Special Sauce and whichever Sauce wins the battle on January 16th! On these days, the cafeteria staff are wearing football jerseys or T-shirts. Just having lots of FUN with the students leading up to the Super Bowl!
To see what great meals we are serving the month of January, go to our school’s website, click on Menus in the “Student” box and see what’s for breakfast and lunch! We have a few changes this month like serving Chicken and Waffles, Personal Pizzas and Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup! In addition to showing what we are serving each day, you can see information such as the Farm 2 School Monthly Features, Daily Breakfast and Lunch Choices and much more. It’s easy and simple to go over the menu with your student(s) online!
In February, we will have fun with the students during the week of Valentine’s Day and prior to the Winter Break. A lot of excitement will be coming in March as we celebrate National School Breakfast Week, St. Patrick’s Day and the First Day of Spring. We will also have the Strong 4 Life Team from Children’s Health Care serving lunch to the students and following up on healthy habits.
As always, we look forward to serving your students good, nutritional breakfasts and great tasting nutritional lunches
for the second half of the school year!
