The Latest News of Ardmore High School

We consider all of our students at Ardmore High School special, but we do have some extra special students at Ardmore who recently participated in Special Olympics at Athens High School. We know that everyone who competes in Special Olympics is a winner and we want to congratulate all of our winners. We also had some adults and students who participated in a run to raise awareness and celebrate Special Olympics. Mrs. Brenda Morrow is the coordinator for Ardmore and we want to thank her for all of her hard work.

Mr. Andrew Eakes was recently honored at a banquet in Birmingham for being selected as a regional winner of the Bryant/Jordan Achievement Award. This is a huge honor and this year the banquet featured Senator Jeff Sessions, State Superintendent Tommy Bice, and AHSAA Executive Director Mr. Steve Savarese. We are very proud of Andrew’s accomplishments and wish him luck with his future plans.

Our Anatomy, Physics, and Forensics class took a field trip to Atlanta to the Body Exhibit and Extreme Dinosaur Exhibit. Our students were able to view actual preserved human bodies. They viewed the bones, muscles, digestive system, respiratory system, reproductive systems, and fetal development. The exhibit allowed the students to see the actual organs and systems that they learn in class. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn, but the thing as principal I am most proud of is the behavior of our students. I received nothing but positive comments concerning how our students behaved. I would also like to thank Coach Landtroop, Micheal Defiore, and Rebecca Martin for coordinating this trip for our students.

We were recently honored to have our benefactors who allowed us to secure funds to purchase the new sign in front of the school on our campus for a photo opportunity. Mr. James Shannon spearheaded the effort and received donations from Senator Bill Holtzclaw, Representative Dan Williams, First National Bank, and Butler Realty. The sign looks wonderful and we are very thankful to have yet another tool with which to communicate with our stakeholders.

Our spring sports teams are all still going strong with the exception of soccer that has completed their season. Baseball post-season has begun and the other sports will be having their play-offs very soon. Expectations are high for the post season and we encourage everyone to come out and support the Tigers as they pursue a state title.
