A Note from the Principal
Dear Families,
Our Academic Performance and Catholic Identitiy goals remain an important focus during the first year of the implementation of our accreditation plan. In the past two weeks, Mrs. Klepcyk and I have spent time in various classrooms completing observations and have had the opportunity to see our plan being implemented. In terms of our Academic Performance goal, Miss Martinson's first graders and Mrs. Miller's third graders learned the difference between statements that characterized a growth mindset versus ones that characterized a fixed mindset. In both classrooms, students learned that their brains could grow and that challenges are opportunities to grow.
Our Catholic Identity goal was also being addressed in lessons, and solidarity is the Catholic Social Justice teaching that is the basis for our Catholic Identity goal. Mrs. Curtis' fourth graders participated in an interesting web-making exercise that visually showed them how we are all connected and important to each other (see picture above). Mrs. Krogman's seventh graders created modern versions of the Beatitudes and described how solidarity is shown. We were pleased to see our accreditation plan in action in classrooms throughout the school.
Finally, MAP Student Progress Reports (K-8) for the winter testing session are in your child's communication folder today so be sure to look for them.
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal

District Power of the Pen 2020
We are “Paschal Proud” of our Power of the Pen showing at the district level of writing competition at University School on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Out of sixteen schools participating, the entire seventh grade team came home with the prized 1st Place Power of the Pen District Trophy. On the individual level for the seventh grade, Katie Moore earned a 2nd Place trophy, and Eva Ko earned a 6th Place medal. In addition, many of the team members earned #1 rankings on their writings. The links for February for Grade 3, March for Grade 2, April for Grade 1, May for Kindergarten can be found below.
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1, Kindergarten.
