Character Analysis
Characters
Edmund- in the beginning of the book Edmund is quite naïve and mean to his younger sister Lucy. Not only this, he is spiteful to everything that does not suit his standards. He said that Lucy was just playing in the story of Narnia even though he saw the world himself. Him being naïve is apparent in his meeting with the White Witch. She was easily able to trick Edmund into getting into the cart with her by the cold weather. She was able to trick him into bringing his siblings to her by the Turkish delight and a warm drink.
Lucy- the polar opposite of Edmund, Lucy is quite imaginative. She was the first into the world of Narnia and seems to be the only one who has had a positive encounter. Despite almost being tricked into being taken to the witch by Tumnus she made it out of Narnia with almost no trouble. She is very forgiving and is evident when she easily forgives Tumnus for almost tricking her. She was very hurt by Edmund’s lie and is thought to be mad or a liar by Peter and Susan.
Susan- Little is known about Susan at this point in the novel. It is clear that she is very mature for her age and she likes to show this. She seems to be independent and very caring of Lucy and everyone else. Her apparent care for Lucy is shown when she takes her concerns to the professor.
Peter- Like Susan little is known about Peter. Like Susan, it is clear he has a sense of independence in his personality. He can be depicted as the group “leader” if there was ever a need to have a leader. He is very brave and quickly puts an end to the rude aura of Edmund. He quickly brought to light his rudeness to everything and especially Lucy. He also brought concerns of Lucy possibly being mad to the professor.
