Blain Update

November 30, 2021

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

Beginning on Wednesday, December 1st, Blain Elementary will be participating in "West Perry Wednesday." On the first Wednesday of the month, students are encouraged to wear green and white or West Perry gear to show their school spirit and Mustang Pride. The idea for West Perry Wednesday came from the WPHS Spirit Club.

Picture retakes are Wednesday, December 1st.

The next Blain PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 20th at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria. All families are encouraged to attend.

Families are reminded to please contact the school nurse if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 or if your child is showing symptoms. Our nurse, Mrs. Smith, can be reached at 717-536-3219 ext. 3504.

Families are encouraged to review our Title I programming information located on our school website. There you will find our Blain Title I Student/Parent/Teacher Compact, our School Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy, our District Parent and Family Engagement Policy, and our Title I Parent Right to Know letter. http://blain.westperry.org/parents/resources/links

Helping Hands

As a school, we have connections with many organizations and individuals who are looking for ways to help our students and their families. If you find yourself in need of help and are having difficulty getting resources for your children or your family, please reach out to Mrs. Jones, your child's teacher, or our school counselor.

Last year, several organizations donated new winter coats, hats, and gloves to our school. If you would like us to send any of these items home with your child, please let us know. We would like to get these items to our students before it gets cold.

We are very fortunate to be part of such a caring community and hope to be able to help pass along the kindness of others!

Attendance

We recognize that due to COVID-19 and other illness/events that are out of a family's control, there are times that our students must miss school; therefore, we encourage everyone to minimize other absences whenever possible. If you have questions about whether or not you should send your child to school, please contact Mrs. Smith, our school nurse.

Monthly Lesson Recap: Career Lessons

Did you know Pennsylvania has Career Education and Work standards for students in grades K-12? November 15th through 19th, we celebrated career week in collaboration with the middle and high school! We had special announcements, career lessons, and our teachers talked about their career paths! This month, I visited library classes to complete SmartFutures career lessons with students in grades K-5. Students in grades K-3 completed an activity on interests, 4th grade completed an activity on interests and abilities, and 5th grade looked at the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship!

Students in grades 4-5 should complete one additional lesson of their choosing by January 1, 2022. Students access SmartFutures through their Clever portal and can complete the lesson anywhere they have internet access.

Holiday Thanks

Each year, the faculty and staff at Blain Elementary School collect funds in order to support some of our students and their families during the holiday season. We know that every family wants to provide the “joy” of the holiday season to their children, but in some cases, financial reasons may impede that effort. This year, we were able to raise over $2000 to support Blain students and their families! Special thanks to Blain faculty and staff, Best Wrenches in Shermans Dale, Blain Zion UMC Women’s Fellowship, Triple D Towing and Hauling in Shermans Dale, Blain alumni, the 12 Women of Perry County, and Blain families. Thank you so much for everyone’s help and generosity; the holiday program would not be possible without you!
