North Glendale Family Update

November 28, 2020

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone had a nice, long weekend that let you and yours find joy together.

As we look forward to bringing our NG family back together, please be extra diligent about potential exposure and symptoms of Covid. If you have any suspicion your student may have been exposed or is showing any symptoms, please, please err on the side of caution and take an extra day or two at home. We have such a short time before Winter Break ~ wouldn't it be great for all of us to make it Winter Break healthy and not in quarantine?!

If you have not yet done so, please complete your second semester commitment intent HERE.

Please reach out anytime!

The General Fund Campaign ends on Tuesday, December 1st. If you are able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our North Glendale Community. General Fund is always an important fundraiser, however this year it is one of our only fundraising initiatives since events like Trunk or Treat and the in-person Trivia/Auction are not possible.

We welcome donations in any amount and greatly appreciate your support. North Glendale Elementary PTO is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization #18599664. All donations are tax deductible. (Please remember to take advantage of any Matching Gift programs you may have through an employer as this can multiply the dollar amount that the school receives.)

You can make your tax deductible General Fund donation right now through PayPal. Please use Paypal by logging in to your account and search @northglendalepto or DONATE NOW

We will not be charged a fee if you select FRIENDS AND FAMILY at check out. A paper form was sent home with your student as well.

Thank you!

Wellness Week: November 30 - December 4

Each day of the Kirkwood School District Wellness Week is focused on an important action to open up conversations and activities to help us grow and connect with our best self. From wellness-related events for school and home and encouraged actions to online webinars and events, each theme is designed to help us to learn new ways to start incorporating the practice of wellness into our daily lives.

Yearbook Time!

North Glendale PTO is purchasing one yearbook per family for free. If you would like any additional yearbooks for your household, please fill out and submit this Google Form, and send payment to North Glendale PTO. Payment can be sent via Paypal or check. Each additional yearbook is $11.

Order form:

I did not give details on the two payment options here, because it is on the Google Form and I was trying to keep this short. But if it would good to include those details here as well:

To pay with Paypal, log in to your account and search @northglendalepto or DONATE NOW and select “Standard Transfer” (not “Instant Transfer”) so a fee is not applied. If you do not use Paypal, you can send a check payable to "North Glendale PTO" to school with your student.

Covid Exposure and Testing: These measures should be followed even if your child is in the At Home Learning Program.

  • If your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive, PLEASE notify school right away.
  • If your child is getting tested, you need to notify us of the testing and send a copy of the results to us.
  • If your child is living in the household with someone who is awaiting test results because that person is either symptomatic or has been exposed to someone who tested positive, your child should stay at home until the test results are in and negative.

You may also self-report by completing an online form and a nurse from the school will contact you.

FAMILY COMMITMENT for SECOND SEMESTER: Due12/2 (but sooner is great!)

If you have not yet done so, please commit for second semester HERE.

Please take your time and have careful consideration before electing your program choice. Unlike this quarter, your commitment will take your child through the end of the year. Also, unlike this quarter, your commitment will not be able to be changed. Right now, we have allowed families to switch to online or in person if they changed their mind. This will not be able to happen during the second semester; what you elect now, will be your election for the remainder of the year.

Your choice will take effect on January 6, 2021 and end on May 27, 2021. We are planning to continue with our current schedule for the second semester. We will do our best to minimize disruptions to schedules; however, we have learned from past experiences that some changes are inevitable. We are continually evaluating both our in-person and virtual learning experiences and making adjustments as needed.

Please reach out to me with any questions regarding your options! Happy to talk anything through.

STEAMFest 2021 Information

Kirkwood’s annual STEAMFest will happen this year, but protocol and timing are very different. This is due to Kirkwood adhering to The Academy of Science St. Louis Science Fair changes for 2021.

Our website has been updated with new information, new instructions, new forms, new calendar, and new deadlines that are much earlier than in years past. You can get started NOW!

Due to the new, shorter deadlines, no time extensions will be made for submitting materials this year. The application has been replaced with a Research Plan Form. Students can complete and submit that for pre-approval by January 13, 2021. The sooner it's submitted, the sooner it's approved.

Once students have received their approval, they can begin work on their virtual project and logbook. When completed, materials will be submitted no later than February 24, 2021.

On March 10, 2021, Kirkwood will share results via emails to students, on the district website, with all schools, and through social media. Qualifying projects will advance to the annual Academy of Science St. Louis Science Fair for judging.

Early Check Outs: Progress ~ thanks so much!

Thanks for your consideration scheduling for your kids.

We have noticed fewer kids being checked out during the school day.

Each time we have to call into a classroom to notify a student they are leaving, we have disrupted the learning environment, the teacher inevitably has to scramble to pull things together for the student, and instructional time is lost. If a child is coming back to school, we are faced with another set of disruptions.

While it may be unavoidable at times, we ask that during the day check outs are few and far between.

Additionally, because all of our staff are involved in our dismissal routines, beginning in 3rd quarter (January) there will be no dismissals from the office after 3:00 pm.
