The Christmas Sharing Story
In 1969, a teacher and a social worker asked several local churches, school staff members, and students to help 12 needy families at Christmas. The group delivered food, clothing, and toys to these families. The program today is a unique community effort, serving over 1000 families from our community, involving all of CUSD 200 schools, nine area churches as well as a number of other community groups and businesses. The Christmas Sharing program provides us with a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the true spirit and meaning of the holiday season.
It may seem amazing that there are so many needy families in this area. While DuPage County remains among the top twenty wealthiest counties in the U.S., there are still many among us who are less fortunate. The District 200 social workers, as well as local social agencies, assist in identifying those in need in our community.
The families identified by the schools and social agencies receive a letter explaining the details of the Christmas Sharing program. The letter invites them to come to a designated church distribution center. The families will be provided boxes of food and an opportunity to select clothing, linens, household items, and toys.
This year, 120 families from Lincoln have been invited to participate in this program. Nearly 30% of our students are invited to participate in this program.
Besides identifying families in need, part of Lincoln’s involvement in the program is to collect items for distribution.
Please bring your gently used and clean items to our school foyer. Blankets, warm clothes, coats and boots are appreciated.
Food, household supplies and cleaning supplies are always needed.
Cash donations are welcome! Please make checks payable to Christmas Sharing.
Please visit the Christmas Sharing website at
Lincoln Elementary School will be collecting donations
Monday, November 26th through Friday, November 30th.
Collection boxes will be located in the lobby area.
Please help to make this a great success!
