The Week at a Glance
Weekly Concept: Let's Trade
Essential Question: How do we get what we need?
After Spring Break, our class will be focusing on trading. We will discuss how giving things to receive other things is one way to get the things we need.

Don't forget...Spelling City, Unit 5 Week 1, offers fun and meaningful practice of the weekly spelling lists.
Safety Practice Drills
I just want to take the time to commend the third graders on their amazing cooperation during Tuesday's school-wide code red lock down drill. In a very crowded and uncomfortable position, they did not make a peep for the duration of the very long rehearsal. I think we will all agree that it is heartbreaking that we, as a society, have reached the point that this is something we must practice with school children. Thank you to those of you who took the time to discuss these drills with your child. I can assure you that it really did help to qualm their fears.
Ag Day Lunches
As you know, the Farm Bureau Ag Day is just around the corner on April 11. On this day, your child will need a packed lunch (preferably in a disposable bag), unless one has been requested from the school cafeteria. I will be sending that request form home with students on Monday, April 2. This will need to be returned the next day, on April 3. If that form is not returned, your student will receive and will be charged for a school lunch on Ag Day. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Technology Galore!
Speaking of cooperative students...
When classrooms are filled with students who are willing to take risks to learn new things, fantastic things happen! This week alone, students have experienced amazing technology opportunities. Ask your child about Plickers, and FlipGrid. These are both fun ways for them to show what they know...without boring old worksheets. Learning about Kahoot! is on slate for after spring break. Another exciting technology-enhanced activity this week included a Skype session with the author of the popular Bird & Squirrel series, James Burks. We were able to conduct a meaningful question and answer session with him, as well as participate in some draw along instruction.
Library Schedule Changes
Don't forget...Mrs. Grissom is going to be out of the library two Fridays in April. As a result, we will be visiting the library on Thursday, April 5th and on Thursday, April 12th.
Basket Bash
I want to thank those of you who've already turned in your Basket Bash donation. We cannot do this without help from our parents. I've only received this from less than half of our families, so if this has slipped your mind, feel free to send your child's $5.00 in on Monday after break. Thanks so much for your desperately needed help!
Hatchet
We have started our newest read chapter book, Hatchet. Students are doing well reading and interacting with this more challenging text. Students can look forward to two exciting S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities based upon this novel. More to come on that after break. Interestingly, the author, Gary Paulsen, is a former Iditarod musher.
Week of April 2nd Share Topic
Siblings! Tell us about your brothers or sisters or other kids that live with you. Do you get along or fight? What do you argue about? You may bring in pictures of them or write a story about a time you did or did not get along. If you don’t have siblings, then how about telling us about your cousins?
Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser
On April 10, the LES PTO will hold a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse from 4-8 p.m. Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of the total food purchases from LES PTO family and friends. The flyer that was sent in the Friday folder on March 16th must be presented in order for the PTO to receive the 10% donation. The money earned will be used towards the purchase of new playground equipment.
For those of you who celebrate, have a very Happy Easter!
