Winter Weather Procedures

In the event that Old Man Winter treats us to snow or ice that requires a delayed opening or school closing, here's how you'll be able to find out our school's status:

  • If you have an active account with our emergency notification system - K12 Alerts - you'll receive an automated phone call notifying you if the school is closed or operating under a delayed opening schedule (also, depending on the options you selected, you may also receive a text message);
  • Visit our school's website - www.springfieldschool.org - where the opening status will be prominently displayed;
  • Check your email....any school closing or delayed opening information will be communicated through email as well;
  • Follow our social media where we'll post the status (Facebook @SpringfieldElementary and Instagram @springfieldelementarynj).

What does a 90-minute delayed opening look like?

If our school opens with a delay, our arrival schedule for K-6 students shifts by 90-minutes. Therefore, student drop-off will be from 10:00 - 10:15 (if your child takes the bus and, for example, typically is picked up at 8:10 then you should expect the bus at approximately 9:40).

For preschool students, the delayed opening schedule is as follows:

  • AM Program will run 10:30 - 12:15
  • PM Program will run 1:15 - 3:00

Newly Revised Quarantine Timelines

The NJ Department of Health has once again issued new guidance regarding COVID-19 positive case and close contact quarantines.

Who has to quarantine?

  • Unvaccinated individuals of any age;
  • Anyone age 12 or older who are eligible - but have not yet received - the booster vaccine.

Who does not need to quarantine?

  • Anyone 12 or older who is fully vaccinated (which is defined as two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of the J&J vaccine WITH the booster);
  • Anyone 11 or younger who is fully vaccinated (which is defined as two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of the J&J vaccine);
  • Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90-days.

Under the newly released guidelines from the state, quarantine timelines will be as follows:

  • If positive for COVID-19, quarantine for 5 days (day 0 is the onset of symptoms OR the date of a confirmed positive test if asymptomatic); return on day 6 if symptoms have resolved (per the NJ DOH "fever-free for 24 hours and other symptoms improve");
  • If identified as a close contact, quarantine for 5 days (day 0 is the last day of contact with the positive individual); return on day 6 if no symptoms are present. If symptoms develop during quarantine, notify the school nurse;
  • If identified as a household close contact, quarantine for 10 days (day 0 is the day the household contact showed symptoms OR was confirmed positive if asymptomatic).
