Pre-Pointe Prep Class Description (3rd Grade and Up - Thursdays 4:30-5:15)
Students will be working to meet the criteria and expectations to be approved for pointe shoes. Evaluations will conclude at the end of the summer session. If approved, dancers may enroll in the beginning pointe class or dancers will be recommended to continue pre-pointe class during the 2019-2020 season.
There are many factors involved in readiness for pointe. Some of the most important requirements are core strength in the abdominals, feet and ankles, body alignment, proper rotation of the legs, balance, and both physical and mental maturity.
Class will consist of strengthening exercises at the barre and will move to the center as the dancers’ balance and strength increases. Exercises will focus on working the calf muscles, ankles, and arches of the feet.
Additionally, dancers will be expected to maintain good attendance in their weekly ballet technique classes. As the dancers’ continue to progress, they will be re-evaluated for approval to dance en pointe.
