What's Happening at Venable, December 2019
Hiking in PreK
The day before Thanksgiving break, our four-year-olds hiked the Monticello trail. It was a beautiful day to explore the changes that Fall brings to our environment and to get some good exercise and fresh air!
Comparing in K
Kindergartners played a game that challenged them to compare sets of numbers and prove whether they had more, fewer, or the same as their peers. This partner game expanded to a group game as the students in Ms. Hamilton's class found new ways to challenge themselves.
Reading in 1st
Beanie Babies make great listeners. First graders in Ms. Ljubovic's class practiced reading out loud with fluency and expression to their Beanie Baby partners.
Nature Exploration in 2nd Grade
Nancy Mimms and Nancy Newman, both retired Venable teachers, continued to explore nature with our 2nd graders by bringing in live specimens for students to observe and learn more about. Just before Thanksgiving a stuffed turkey made its way to 2nd grade!
International Day Celebrations - 3rd
The Encore team put together two days of exploration for all students about some of the clothing, games, music, food, geography, and art from cultures around the world.
International Day Celebrations - 1st
Families in Team Hunter-Houchens shared information about geography and cultural traditions from other parts of the world during International Education week. What a great way to reinforce map skills!
Book Fair Has Arrived!
The Bedford Falls book fair arrived today and will be set up in the north lobby for student wish lists beginning tomorrow. Families are encouraged to join us for Reading Night from 5:30-6:30pm on Thursday, December 12 as part of our book fair celebration. Come make a bookmark, curl up with a family member and a favorite book, make a book, shop the book fair, and hear a silly Reader's Theater presentation by our talented staff members. Club Sponsors Needed in 2020
Do you have a passion for a certain topic? Maybe Knitting, Legos, Chess, Acting, Cooking, something else? Would you be interested in spending 90 minutes with a lovely group of 3rd-4th graders after school for 5-6 weeks this winter/spring? Ms. Martin is our club coordinator and is looking for parents who are willing to volunteer time, passion, and expertise to our students. Club sessions will begin at the end of January. If you are potentially interested and would like more information, please contact Ms. Martin.
A Reminder About Traffic
Officer Coleman, our amazing crossing guard, is asking all parents to remember to slow down and be cautious in our intersection. Even if you're late! Also, please remember that all traffic is to turn RIGHT only out of the front driveway in the mornings and the back parking lot in the afternoon. Finally, if you are waiting in the car line in the afternoon, please do not block the sidewalk. Pedestrians are having to go into the street or between cars to get through, which causes unsafe conditions.
