ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Wednesday was a big day at CCS, with our annual visit from Pumpkin Man! We had an amazing turnout of parents, grandparents and special friends here to cheer on the parade of students and staff as we made our way toward the hill. It is always fun to watch the faces of our newest students and families as they experience the emergence of Pumpkin Man and “Mrs. Pumpkin Man”, who has joined him in the past few years.
Thursday was another fun day at CCS, as we hosted author visits from Sarah Dillard and Liza Woodruff for students in grades K-2. Our CCS PTO funded the visiting authors and illustrators for our K-2 students, with the theme “Let’s Cook Up a Story”! This visit was a collaborative effort between our school and the Charlotte Library. Sarah and Liza complemented the learning being done as K-2 students are learning through their literacy work to build a reading and writing community, getting to know characters, and growing as readers. Here are links to their websites:Sarah Dillard and Liza Woodruff.
Recently, retired CCS teacher Colleen Brady joined Kindergarten YOU SKILLS as a guest teacher for two weeks! Students learned about Colleen's travels to Uganda with the 52 Kids Foundation. We danced to Webale ("thank you") and created decorations that will be displayed at a 52 Kids Fundraiser in November. http://www.52kids.org/ The students were excited to think about how we would be supporting kids from so far away!
CCS is thankful for the members of our community, local and beyond, who provide special opportunities for our students during the school year, as well as the PTO for the funding provided for many of these opportunities!
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
Pumpkin Man and Mrs. Pumpkin Man!
Mr. Baird arrived to find a big surprise in his classroom this morning! The CCS cross-country team gifted him with a pop up tent for future seasons.
Our youngest Library Volunteer (and future CCS student), Hollis Bouteiller!
Kindergarten read the book GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER by Ed Emberley, and enjoyed making their own big green monsters!

CARNATION CEREMONY
Each year, CCS holds two carnation ceremonies - one in the Fall and one in the Spring. This helps Kindergarten students feel welcomed by older students in our building. The Fall ceremony features our 8th graders welcoming our Kindergartners to CCS by presenting them with a carnation. In the Spring, our Kindergartners return the sentiment and send our 8th graders off to high school with a carnation. This year’s Fall Carnation Ceremony will take place in the MPR on Friday, November 9th at 1:30 p.m.
