Rituals, Traditions, and Celebrations
Dear LISD Families,
This is the season for celebrations. In the last two weeks of school, we celebrate kindergarten graduation, 5th grade promotion ceremony, 8th grade graduation, and of course, high school graduation! We also have awards ceremonies, student presentations and performances, and other culminating events to mark the end of the academic year. Some of these events are new or revised versions of previously held events, and some are long-standing Lopez traditions. Rituals and traditions, particularly around celebrations, are important for schools and communities. They communicate things about what we value and what we want to lift up. Though it's always a good idea for organizations to examine their rituals and traditions to see if they still fit, and new ones can always be added, rituals and traditions give people a strong sense of belonging, pride, and community. We sincerely hope that you are able to join us for some of our end of year celebrations and hope you'll have conversations at home about which school LISD traditions your children and teenagers enjoy most.
All our best to you and your family,
Mary and Martha

News form the Nurse's Office
Summer is here!!!! Great! COVID is still here...bummer.
To protect yourself, try to have as many of your gatherings outside. This helps in reducing the spread of the virus.
If this is not possible, and you must be inside, have very small gatherings with the ability to have abundant space between people. Everyone should wear a kn95 to protect themselves and others. Everyone should have their immunizations and boosters for this persistent virus up to date. The fewer parties and fewer people in attendance will be the best strategy for staying healthy.
There is new information daily about improved vaccines and vaccines that include new age groups. Stay up to date and take advantage of the new developments.
Don't forget that immunizations for childhood illnesses need to be up to date for starting the new school year in September. The summer is the perfect time to have this done. Earlier in the summer is best as the doctors offices are very busy at the end of the summer. Watch for the announcements for the vaccination clinic run by the San Juan Health Department to be held here at school. Check the web site for the health department for information.
