Civil Liberties

The Espionage Act prohibited any attempt to interfere with military operations. The Sedition Act was designed to protect the U.S. from 'enemy aliens' during WWI. Eugene V. Debs was an American Union leader. The Schenck v. United States (1919) stated that defendants didnt have the right to express freedom of speech. Sacco and Vanzetti were condicted of murder without any evidence and didnt have a fair trial.

Schenck v. United States (1919)

This was a United States Supreme Court decision that upheld the Espionage Act of 1917 and concluded that a defendant did not have a First Amendment right to express freedom of speech against the draft during World War I.

Sacco and Vanzetti

They were convicted of murdering two men during a 1920 armed robbery of a shoe factory in South Braintree There was no prove of the murdering, the court didnt even give them a fair trial because they were Italian Immigrants.
