From Your Pastors
As we come to Labor Day weekend there are many individuals traveling. A large group from Zion is headed to Germany and Oberammergau. We pray for safe travels for everyone over the holiday weekend and beyond.
Our current message series entitled “Building Resilience in Challenging Times” continues this week as we look at Moses. The series is built on Is. 40.31 – Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. We are examining the resilient faith of Old Testament individuals and what we can learn from them that can be applied to our life today.
Our fall “Connection” schedule continues this Sunday with a full slate of activities and Bible study classes for all ages. Three adult Bible studies are being offered along with Kids Connect and activities for junior and senior high students. These are great opportunities to grow in faith. See the flyer in the Hilltop Headlines for more details. SPECIAL NOTE – The Bible study on the MINOR PROPHETS will move from the science lab to the Sanctuary this week. Please note that location change. This week Pastor Dave will be looking at the prophet Amos.
Mark your calendars to meet the two pastoral candidates being interviewed for the position of Senior Pastor. Rev. Zach McIntosh will be on campus Sept. 9-11. Rev. Chris Singer will visit Sept. 16-18. The congregation will have an opportunity to meet each candidate at a Q&A event both Saturdays in the Worship Center tentatively beginning at 1 PM – Sept. 10 for Pastor McIntosh and Sept. 17 for pastor Singer. Keep the call process in your prayers as it continues to move forward.
Remember, if you need to miss a Sunday due to travel plans, you can always view the messages and worship services archived on our website: www.zionwalburg.org. Please keep your pastors informed on how we can be a blessing to you and your family. Call (512.863.3065) or email the church office (church@zionwalburg.org) with any news to share. See you Sunday!
THE LESSONS THIS SUNDAY – Exodus 14.10-14 & 16.1-3; Hebrews 12.1-3; Matthew 6.25-34

A Message From the Principal
Safety Audit
We will soon undergo a safety audit with the Jarrell Police Department. Doing so will assist us with high-level recommendations for our campus.
Fence Under Construction
After several delays, a new security fence is underway, which will totally enclose the school campus playground and the north side. For those who will need to get to band in the mornings or pick up for After-Care – we will share new protocol soon.
Mrs. Brown at NASA
Mrs. Brown, our 8th grade homeroom teacher, has been in Langley, VA this entire week – at NASA. She was selected as one of four teachers nationwide to learn more about how to partner with NASA in the classroom. She is, in fact, a past engineer for them. We are excited to share this news with you, and such honors and opportunities further equip our teachers to powerfully engage Zion students.
All Families Welcome to Chapel
Every Wednesday students gather to worship at 8:15 in our Worship Center. Most of these are student-led. All are cordially invited to participate – and to either have your child(ren) sit with you or you sit with them. Alternately, you can just sit towards the back and participate as a mom, dad, grandparent, or guest.
Chapel Offerings
Each week we ask students and families to consider bringing in an offering to support our quarterly mission. We explain the mission in our chapel services, so students understand who we are blessing with a monetary donation. There are many teaching opportunities here about the biblical spirit of giving and of stewardship. As an example, we explained in word and images that our chapel offering for this quarter will be given to BIG, or Brookwood in Georgetown. Please Google it to learn more about heir amazing ministry! This week students brought in $233.59 – joyfully giving as the offering baskets were passed. We thank all of you for your support in this teaching and giving opportunity through our school. Please remind or prepare your children about this opportunity each Wednesday at Zion.
Teaching Moments
Every day we have intercom announcements, in which we share news of the day, celebrate birthdays, talk about our extra-curriculars, verbally share “Bucketfillers,” and so much more. We also always have “teaching moments,” whereby we never assume students know certain things, but we teach them. Here are the ones we have covered since school began:
· how our Lost & Found system works (having their name on every piece of clothing lunch bags, water bottles, etc.)
· lunch etiquette
· “Good News at Zion” and how those are turned in (catching others who are doing good, kindnesses, serving, etc.)
· why we practice chapel songs before Wednesdays
· flag etiquette
· the definition of “horseplay,” and why it is not allowed, and
· the meaning of special days like Labor Day
By the time we get to May, there will have been over a hundred teaching moments. This is good for all of us to learn together!
Pastoral Visits
Pastor Davenport, Zion’s Senior Pastor of many years – retired in April. We have been doing a nationwide search for a new minister, and we will host two candidates this month. Please pray with us for God to guide the process and to bring our next pastor to us, in His timing.
Still in Need of Assistance – see below
Guest Teachers Needed
The term “Guest Teacher” is the term we use at Zion to describe those who are on our substitute teacher list. We desire everyone to feel blessed as they lead our classes or assist in other ways when serving as Guest Teachers. If you desire assist in this way for the new school year, please contact Mr. Wrege at thomas.wrege@zionwalburg.org There is an interview process involved.
Prerequisites include: the ability to manage a class/a demeanor of being joyful with our classes/an understanding of our mission to share Jesus/confidence in following lesson plans/at least 21 years of age. Priority will go to those who have a degree in education, or educational experience. For those who would like to assist in other ways – it can be in the school office, to assist with student MAP testing, and more. We need a good-sized Guest Teacher list for our teaching team, so please prayerfully consider if you would like to participate in our school ministry in this way. Spread the word, also, beyond our Zion community.
Cafeteria Workers Needed
Consider either becoming a paid worker or a volunteer in our hot lunch program. We need assistance for the school year. If you have an interest, please contact Cafeteria Manager Heather Faske, at heather.faske@zionwalburg.org You will get to see all the children in our school, and help cook up some delicious meals. Before and after-prep and cleanup are included. Thanks also for considering serving in this way!
After-Care Workers Needed
Contact Co-Director Shelli Kasper, at shelli.kasper@zionwalburg.org if you desire to work any time frame or any day, from 3 – 6 pm in our program.
We have had wonderful responses thus far, but still need a few more workers. Thank you!
Landscape Improvement Fund
The Board of Trustees are beginning the process to provide new landscaping within the asphalt driveways surrounding the Sanctuary/Worship Center (new building) to the South parking lot. The costs are estimated to be around $180,000. Therefore, the Landscape Improvement Fund will be created as a new church dedicated account to help fund these efforts. Please prayerfully consider donating to the Landscape Improvement Fund to help cover these costs to beautify Zion’s campus.
Sunday Nursery Workers Urgently Needed
Wurstbraten - How the Torch is Passed!
In this announcement I would like to encourage anyone who was at the first Wurstbraten or got involved later to relate how they got involved, what they started doing and how they got to be involved to the point where they are now. This is especially relevant for those who are now considered captains. If you have a special memory of how you saw this relatively small activity blossom and morph into what it has become I am hoping that you would share this with the rest of us. Please send it to me by email or put it in the box.
If you would like to be part of the process to come up with the design and implementation please contact Weldon at 512-635-6429 or email at 49weldon72@gmail.com.
