First Day of School August 25, 2022

Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year, Mustangs! I am your principal, Cara Comstock. This year will be my eleventh year as the principal at Parkview and I can't wait to share our wonderful school with you!

At Parkview, we are proud of our Two-Way Dual Language Immersion Program that is available from Kindergarten to 5th grade. We are proud to be a California Green Ribbon School Silver Level because we incorporate environmental education and practices into our school. We are also very proud of our system of support that provides targeted interventions for academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning for all students who need it.

We missed all of you and are eager to start teaching and learning again. Please read this newsletter thoroughly for announcements and details about the new school year.

Warmly,

Mrs. Comstock

Introducing Assistant Principal, Sarahi Jimenez

Hello Parkview Mustang Families. The 2022-2023 school year is here and we are so excited to begin. I am eager to start the new school year as your new Assistant Principal, Sarahi Jimenez. Parkview staff, Mrs. Comstock, and I are committed to ensuring that all children are given every possible opportunity to thrive and succeed. Parkview prides itself in working to bring out the best in our students by creating a supportive environment that embraces the individual learning needs of every child and enhances the love of learning. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the Mustang families and build a strong relationship with all of you in the upcoming year.

First Week and Procedures

  • Parents will be permitted to walk their children to the classroom until September 2nd.
  • Students in Kinder through 3rd grade must be picked up every day by an adult or walked home by an older sibling. Only children in 4th or 5th grade may walk home alone or with younger siblings.
  • Breakfast and lunch are provided free for all students every day. If you bring a lunch to the school office after the start of the school day, you must let your child know before school that they need to come to the office to look for their lunch. We will not call children to the office to pick up lunch that has been dropped off.

Busses

Parkview's bus is ready to take your child to and from school. The bus will pick children up in the morning and return them after school to the bus stop on Homer and A Street. Children may choose to wear a mask on the school bus, but it is not required.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast will be served daily starting at 7:30 am. Lunch will be served to all students daily. All students will continue to receive free meals daily. We highly encourage students to try our school meals. Many are made from scratch, like our carnitas, and all are made with love by our wonderful kitchen staff.

Mask Requirements

All students and staff may choose to wear masks at school. Masks will not be required.

Back to School Night

Thursday, Sep. 1st, 5-6:30pm

1416 North 6th Place

Port Hueneme, CA

Parkview's Back to School Night will take place in person and on campus this year. There will be a principal's meeting from 5:00 to 5:30 in the cafeteria and classroom presentations will take place from 5:30 to 6:30. We hope you all are able to join!

Technology Distribution

Kindergarten students and students new to the district will have a device checked out to them during school hours on August 29th. Students will be able to take these devices home to work on homework. I Pads will be issued to students in grades k-2. Chromebooks will be issued to students in grades 3-5. If you do not have home internet, please contact the school office.

COVID Safety Measures

Students are no longer required to be socially distanced in the classroom. Regular hand-washing and sanitizing will be encouraged. Drinking fountains will be turned on in classrooms, but we still recommend that each child bring a personal water bottle. The water bottle can be refilled at the drinking fountain. Students will be permitted to share school supplies and recess equipment.

Students who are sick with COVID symptoms will be sent home and required to present a negative COVID at-home antigen test, show improved symptoms, and be 24 hours fever-free without medication before being admitted back into the classroom.

You MUST call the office to inform the office staff of the reason for every single absence before the day the child returns to school. Even if your child was not sick, if we have not heard from you, we will ask the child to wait at the office until we can get in touch with you before we can admit the child back to the class. This is to prevent children who were sick from entering the classroom until we confirm it was not COVID.

Daily Health Screening

STAFF AND STUDENT SCREENING PROCEDURES

Staff and students shall conduct health screening before leaving their home. Screenings will not take place at school sites by HESD staff. Staff and students who have symptoms of infectious illness should stay home and take an at-home antigen COVID test. Staff and students with symptoms of COVID-19 infection will be advised to not return for in-person instruction until they have presented a negative COVID test, have shown improved symptoms, and have been without fever for 24 hours without the help of medication.
