WHAT'S HAPPENING IN FOURTH GRADE...
Math: Chapter 7 brings the addition and subtraction of fractions. Students are learning new chapter vocabulary including mixed number and unit fraction. We will also review the terms Associative Property of Addition, denominator, numerator, and simplest form. Several of these concepts have also been covered on our FIM Power Standards.
Social Studies: This week we are discussing Michigan Economics.
Michigan Model: Last year we started a new program for KES, the Michigan Model, which replaced the Second Step lessons. Students learn about social and emotional health in these Michigan Model lessons. We have started talking about using self-control to manage some of our strong feelings.
Writing: We are working on wrapping up fictional narrative writing. Students are enjoying this genre of writing because it's so fun! They are working on adding dialogue in to them as well.
Science: In this mystery lesson, students analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different sources of energy, including burnable fuels and alternative (renewable) energies. Students choose different energy sources to power a town.
PE-Nut: This week Mrs. Bauer talked about how we can get in 60 minutes of activity every day. Students record what they do at school and home to show their activities. Then she had them get up to get some activity in to show the difference between their resting heart rate and after doing exercise.
