From the Art Room
The annual Original Works art fundraiser is happening NOW! Your student will be bringing their order form home this week! So check those backpacks!
For those of you who are not familiar with the program: the students create their artwork in art class, it is sent to a company for copying, and you can order your student’s artwork on different items. Items including, t-shirts, coffee mugs, ornaments and much more. These make great Christmas presents and yes, orders will be here by Christmas break!
As most other things in the world, Original Works has transitioned their programs to online. Each student has a unique student code for their artwork. You can view their artwork with a small picture on the order form or use their code to view their artwork online. Carefully follow the directions on the front of the order form. All orders are either done online or by telephone. No orders and no money should come back to school. If you do not have internet and cannot order by telephone, think about coming to use the internet at MHLT while you pick up your student, or the Minocqua Public Library. For ordering questions please call the number on the order form. Any other question can be directed to Miss Christianson at kchristianson@mhlt.org.
Orders must be completed by Monday, November 27th! The online program is a transition and new for all of us, so please read ordering directions carefully, ask questions, and be patient. It really is user friendly! As always, thank you so much for your support to the art department. The fundraiser is used for artist in resident programs and so much more!

Lions Club Peace Poster Contest
6th-8th grade students all participated in the International Lions Club Peace Poster contest. This year's theme was The Future of Peace. Lions Club members and MJ1 staff voted to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. 1st place was 8th grader Maya T., 2nd place 6th grader Lilah K., and 3rd place 8th grader Victoria S. On Monday, the winners received a certificate and a check from the Lions Club. Maya's poster will go onto the next level for judging. Great job to all MJ1 artists!

Counseling Corner
During the month of November, our classes will focus on career-related lessons. We won't be trying to get kindergarteners (or even 8th graders) to nail down their future professions, but rather have goals such as helping students to start making connections between skills learned in the classroom and real-world jobs, and expanding students’ knowledge of the various careers. We will also be working to help students see the connection between interests, skills, and abilities and career choice.
Middle school students will have the chance to use an internet-based program called Career Cruising, which will allow students to explore career and college options later used to develop a career plan. Career Cruising can be accessed from home, school, or wherever your son or daughter has access to the internet. Features of the program include assessment, career profiles, multimedia interviews, college & financial aid info, an employment guide, and resume builder.
