ASVAB Test on November 2nd
Dear students and parents,
Oxford High School will offer the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Career Exploration Assessment for sophomore, junior and senior students on Wednesday, November 2.
The ASVAB CEP will help your student:
- Learn about themselves and the world of work.
- Explore occupations in line with their interests and skills.
- Develop an effective strategy to realize their career and education goals.
The ASVAB is a standardized exam and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. The ASVAB, the world’s most widely used aptitude battery, is comprised of eight subtests that yield three Career Exploration Scores (Verbal Skills, Math Skills, and Science and Technical Skills). The testing will begin at 8 a.m., and there is no charge to take it. Although the test is scheduled for a Delayed Start Wednesday, students will receive an excused absence for any class time they might miss.
The ASVAB results are used when a student enters the military, however, students do NOT need to have an interest in the military to take the assessment and may be beneficial to any student choosing to take the exam. The ASVAB helps students to accurately identify their strengths with the Interest Inventory Skills section. ASVAB results also give students a current snapshot of their skill levels so they may improve performance on high-stakes standardized tests.
There will be a follow up Career Exploration Program (CEP) on Nov. 16 to discuss career exploration options. Research has shown that students who participate in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program enjoy greater confidence in making career decisions, experience less career indecision and more thoughtfully consider their options than do students who do not participate in the ASVAB CEP. Go to www.asvabprogram.com to learn more about the ASVAB CEP.
ON TEST DAY: Students will need to report to school between 7:40 and 7:45 a.m. They should bring their Chromebook and a picture I.D. (required). Food/drinks are not permitted in the testing area. Cell phones and other electronic devices need to be powered off and put away. Testing should be completed at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Students who would like to sign up to take this exam should complete the registration form by clicking here: https://forms.gle/vrYH3Rva3GQta7Mv7
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
