What is a Computer System
Components of a Computer System
3 Stages of a Computer
A Computer System is made up of three stages. The INPUT stage (where data travels into the system), the PROCESS stage (where the computations happen) and the OUTPUT stage (when the results are given)
Input
Push the capture button to take a photograph
Process
Light is captured through the camera lenses and transformed to create a digital image
Output
The digital image is shown on the monitor screen
Storage
Where are images stored?
Images on a Digital Camera are stored in the cameras main memory and/or on a memory card.
Hard Drive - Long Term Memory
This is where all of your documents, pictures, programs etc. are stored on the computer, similar to all of the long term memories in your brain
Random Access Memory - Short Term Memory
RAM is where the computer stores the current task that is being carried out. This is like when you are thinking about how to work out a sum in maths or what your are going to say next.
USB
USB is portable memory when you can back up your work and transport it where ever you go.
The Processor
Where the computer carries out all of it’s tasks (processes) in a similar way to your brain thinks about things.
The Motherboard
