News and Notes for Parents at Plymouth North
The Close of 2019-2020
From NEASC to Remote Learning, it's been a big year for Plymouth North High School and Eagle Nation. There were the highs of the smashing success of our re-accreditation visit, in which we received 20 commendations from the NEASC team, major increases to our overall performance on MCAS scores, and our 2020 Graduation at Plymouth Rock. There was also the low point of sending our students away on March 13th for what would be the year, the trials and tribulations of remote learning, and the inability to be together for what is usually the most memorable parts of the school year. In all, it will be a year that none of us will ever forget.
I'm most inspired that through it all, our teachers were flexible and creative in ways we could have never expected, our students were dedicated to remain engaged even with a rapidly changing set of expectations, and you, our families, showed us all how dedicated you are to your child's success by stepping up to balance work, home, and your child's remote learning during multiple national crises. We weathered the storm (so far!) and have come out of this year with our students engaged and committed to doing even more, our staff eager to return to work, and our community rallying around the school like never before. So while we're all tired and a bit bleary-eyed from this situation, I'm so incredibly proud of the way this school and it's people have truly risen to the occasion.
Meanwhile, we all know what is on the horizon: more uncertainty. I wish I could outline for you exactly what next year would look like, but we await to see how this situation develops as well as get guidance from the state on how to proceed. Our district and school staff will be working all summer to develop the right protocols, equipment, procedures and strategies for our school to find the best way to help keep our people safe and provide the robust education you demand and we expect. As soon as we have details about how the 2020-2021 school year will be, I will certainly pass that on to you.
In the mean time, I sincerely wish for you and your family to enjoy the summer and make the most of your time together! Know that we are so proud of how our students and families stepped up in time of crisis this year, and that we will be here in whatever capacity we can on the expected first day of school: Wednesday, September 2nd to start a brand new school year that we hope to be the very best year we've ever had.
Our office is staffed from 7am-2pm, Monday-Friday all summer, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We are HAPPY to help!
I am so grateful to be a part of this school and it's community!
Have an INCREDIBLE summer!

Principal

1. Term 4, Final Grades & Report Cards
- Report Cards will be mailed home next week.
- Term 4 is being graded Pass/Fail. Please encourage your child to turn in any work they have not yet entered by the end of the day on Friday. Grades are promptly finalized and turned in on Friday as grades are closed and the school year ends.
- There were no final exams this year.
- 2nd Semester Half Year courses will be graded Pass/Fail.
- For Full Year Courses, our in-person terms (Term 1 & 2) will be graded with a numerical value and letter grade and will be worth 70% of a student's final grade.
- For Full Year Courses, our remote learning terms (Terms 3 & 4) will be graded Pass/Fail and will be worth 30% of a student's final grade. If a student got a "Pass" in both Term 3 & Term 4, this process ensures all students can only raise their final grade numerical value.
- All Full Year Courses will have a final grade with a numerical value and a letter grade. Courses that are typically included in GPA based on our handbook will be included in the calculation your child's GPA.
- Summer School is available to students this year, and there is no minimum grade to become eligible. Please reach out to your child's guidance counselor for details.
2. Student Item Pick-Up
Through the closure, we have set up individual times for students to come in and get items as requested, but those requests have been minimal. If your child has items to pick up that they will need over the summer, please reach out to your child's Assistant Principal or Guidance Counselor and we will be happy to setup a time for them to come in over the next few weeks.

4. Book Return Information
This will help us keep track of the materials, help limit interactions, and help to make sure our records of your child returning their materials are as accurate as possible.
An alphabetical list of your child's courses for next year will be included in the mailing next week with your child's report card. Your child's actual student schedule will be distributed on the anticipated first day of school: Wednesday, September 2nd.
Please know that because of the current situation, there could be adjustments and changes to that course list for next year. As I’m sure you can understand, because of the constraints in the number of classes each student takes in a year, space, staffing, scheduling options and state mandates, especially in the upcoming year, there are inevitably some students who may not have received all of their electives and there may be changes over the summer to that list of courses. Requests to change courses can only be made on an extremely limited basis prompted by an unforeseen change or error that would need to be made prior to the start of the school year.
6. Re-Entry Plan Survey for Families
We encourage you to participate in this survey, so we can use the data in our planning strategy. I've included the link below.
