Basketball
In 1981, Journey released Don't Stop Believin' ... in 2005, the Chicago White Sox used it as motivation to win the World Series ... in 2018-19, it's the title that defines our basketball teams. The youngsters are taking a few lumps right now, but as they gain experience and continue to try to do things the right way - BELIEVING in themselves, in their coaches and in each other will go a long way in building the future!
Girls
On Tuesday, Hobart took on the mighty Michigan City Wolves - ranked #6 in the area. The first half was extremely competitive ... one where our girls executed the game plan well - often finding the open teammate against Michigan City's half court zone defense. Unfortunately, Hobart couldn't capitalize at the basket and the Lady Brickies trailed 39-13. In the 3rd quarter, led by NCAA Div 1 recruit Hannah Noveroske (6'5"), the Wolves pounded the rock inside ... and when Michigan City extended their defensive pressure, our girls struggled to find the same looks we got in the 1st half. The final score was Michigan City 77, Hobart 20. Senior Samantha Vode led the Lady Brickies with 10 points and junior Gabbie Ramirez backed her up with 6.
Last night, the Lady Brickies traveled to 5959 Broadway for a Saturday night clash with Northwest Crossroads Conference rival Andrean. The '9ers jumped out to an early 11-0 lead with some hot shooting on their home floor. The Lady Brickies battled back and came right at Andrean on both ends ... playing EVEN the rest of the game, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Hobart lost 47-36.
The girls have one more contest before Christmas ... this Tuesday at Kouts in what should be a really good game - GOOD LUCK LADIES!

Boys
On Tuesday, neighborhood braggin' rights were at stake as Hobart traveled north of Ridge Road to take on the River Forest Ingots. EVERY YEAR this one is a BATTLE - and the 2018 edition did not disappoint! In a game that went back-and-forth for 32 minutes, Hobart finished with more shot attempts, more rebounds and less turnovers than River Forest ... unfortunately - even though our guys are doing things right, the Brickies dropped their 2nd straight close one ... 60-54. Hobart finished with 3 players in double-figures with juniors Caleb Banjoff (15) and Tyler Schultz (11) combining for 26 pts and sophomore Riley Johnston chipping in 10.
Silent Night, HOLY COW!! What a GREAT turnout at the 8th annual Silent Night game ... and WHAT A GAME! The Brickies took on Northwest Crossroads Conference rival Lowell on Friday night. The Red Devils were taller than EVERYONE on Hobart's team (exception = Trevor and Sean Underdahl) by 3-6" per player, but the Brickies were TOUGHER than pretty much everyone on Lowell's team. Once again, the game was EXHAUSTING to watch as Hobart played with EVERYTHING they had - giving GREAT EFFORT on both ends of the floor. Tied at 46 late in the contest, Lowell was finally able to capitalize on it's experience and ended the game on 10-3 run to earn a 56-49 victory. Junior Caleb Banjoff (currently #1 in the area in made 3-pt FG's) again led the Brickies with 18 points on 6 3's. Sophomore David Brown added 8 pts to go with his 5 rebounds, and sophomore Riley Johnston and freshman Anthony Williams each chipped in 7.
On Saturday, after physically and emotionally exhausting games on Tuesday and Friday, the Brickies finally ran out of gas playing their 3rd game in 5 days. The LaPorte Slicers were the beneficiaries of a worn out Bricksquad. The EFFORT was there, but Hobart just couldn't find any offensive rhythm as LaPorte left town with a 56-28 win.

Wrestling
On Wednesday night, the Andrean 59ers got ROCKED by our Brickie grapplers by the score of 78-4 ... that's right - we won by 74 pts! Due to injuries and illness, the '9ers only filled about half the weight classes, so Hobart won 6 matches by forfeit ... and won 7 more by fall - 4 of them in less than 1 minute!! Here are your winners from Wednesday:
Freshman Trevor Schammert @ 113
Sophomore Cristian Padilla @ 120
Junior Nathan Schammert @ 126
Sophomore Harley Potter @ 138
Sophomore Tyler Turley @ 152
Sophomore Cameron Smith @ 182
Junior Mark Mummey @ 220
Anyone else notice that ALL of these guys are underclassmen?
On Saturday, Hobart hosted the annual SUPER DUALS Invitational and welcomed Highland, Knox, Whiting and Hammond Gavit to the "friendly city". In an effort to stick with the Queen references, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS my friends!! ... and we DID keep on fighting 'til the end :) A perfect 5-0 record against the competition gave Hobart the title as the Brickies weren't really challenged much all day.
The Brickies were SO dominant on Saturday, our JV team actually filled the 6th spot of the tournament ... and did pretty well against the other varsity teams!
Hobart is currently UNDEFEATED at 8-0 on the season in dual meets (including 5-0 yesterday) and 3-0 in NCC action!!
The Brickies have a HUGE dual meet this Tuesday in the "Hub City" as we wrestle the Crown Point Bulldogs. Good thing we have guys that stay cool UNDER PRESSURE (... had to get one more Queen reference in)
Start time is 6:30 ... BE THERE!

The girls sWIN team was outstanding!!
