RAIDER TIME
Dear Atholton Families,
Upon my arrival to Atholton, the staff and I began discussing Raider Time. Every Wednesday, for thirty minutes, high school students across Howard County, are allowed to use this time to their advantage. Some students seek out extra help from teachers, some make up work, some head to the gym, and others socialize with friends. While each student is allowed to choose where they go during this time, my concern was accountability. How do we know who is where? To answer this question, I charged Ms. Rhee and her computer science students to help. They began working on app for students and teachers to sign-up for Raider Time. We ran the Beta test of the app this past week and barring a few kinks, it worked well. Within the next two weeks, our new Raider Time App should be fully functional and all students will be accounted for. Kudos to Ms. Rhee and the talented students in her Computer Science class for all of their hard work!
Thank you to all the families that came out last Tuesday evening for Pizza with the Principal. Parents had an opportunity to ask questions regarding Advanced Placement and Gifted and Talented programs as well as Raider Time and Honor Roll celebrations. More importantly, there was a serious discussion on vaping. Please be sure to have a conversation with your children about the dangerous effects of vaping. A parent shared this article after our discussion that evening. Stay tuned for more one-on-one sessions with the principal!
Lastly, as the fall sports season comes to an end, join me in supporting our players and teams as playoffs begin. This coming week, Branden Nguyen will compete in the Golf State Championship. Our Field Hockey team’s first playoff game is at Reservoir on Tuesday. GO RAIDERS! Our Boys JV and Varsity soccer teams had tough losses last week against Howard and Centennial. They fought well and should be proud! The Baltimore Sun captured some great moments from the game against Howard. Click here.
Wishing everyone a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
Principal
